The Heart of the Mint

Good morning Mintdom!

I have a lot going on inside my mind this morning, and it all has to do with my heart.  I hope I can be clear about it all.  It is funny because when I opened my Daily Bread devotional this morning it was about the heart, and my ‘good morning’ book was on friendship, which is SO about the heart.

When I first woke up this morning, I made a decision not to walk. I was tired and my left knee is crunching.  I also thought that I am doing the 30 minutes a day for most days, and I am not achieving results as fast I think I should be achieving them.  That little negative voice crept into my brain saying – give it up, this is not working, you really hate doing this.  You know how those deMINTed* creatures are.  They only want to search and destroy us.

I believe that goals NEED to come from our hearts in order to work. I know there are many good goals out there, but I do not stick to the goals that are only in my head.  I know today that my goal of good health is in my heart, because I did not give up when that little deMINTed creature showed up.  Instead, I went and Googled the American Heart Association to find out just exactly what that 30 day recommendation was all about.  You can read the whole thing for yourself here

One little word brought that little creature right back.  That word was MINIMUM. I swear it was EVERYWHERE!  Walk a MINIMUM of 30 minutes.  Do 8-10 strength exercises a MINIMUM of two days a week. Yikes!

In the past, I allowed that little deMINTed creature grow big and strong. Today, instead of listening to what I am NOT doing, I tossed an 8-ounce glass of water on it and tonight I will head to the pool to swim and/or the gym for some weight training.  Woohoo!  Victory is sweet!

When you talk to yourself today, will you allow that little deMINTed creature grow big and strong or will you toss a healthy 8-ounce glass of water on it instead?

* deMINTed = Unhappy, Negative, Ugly – the opposite of Mint!

PS  Today is International Friendship Day – Sometime today, call a friend you have not visited with in a while – maybe invite them for coffee!
