Good morning Mintdom!

Friday, was a good day for steps!  Even though I did not, do a morning walk (taking a little break for intentional walking), I ended up walking more then I expected because of some errands and our office’s First Friday Happy Hour.  Now on Saturday, I made the decision to have a total veg day!  I really wanted to have a day without plans, and doing as little as possible.  As you can see, I achieved my goal!  LOL!  It worked because today, I have already planned a dish for this evening’s party with my Toastmasters group, AND gone to the store, put groceries away and I am ready to head to the pool!  That theory about your actions follow your thoughts, you are what you think you are, is true.  The more I thought about how tired I was, the more tired I became until, I ended up yesterday, with my veg day.  Of course, I also thought that after my ‘do nothing’ day, that I would be rejuvenated, and I was!  I am very ready to take on the week!

“A man becomes what he thinks about all day long” -Ralph Waldo Emerson

Just to take this a little farther, I have seen this theory work in my life, even before I knew about it.  I thought I could buy my first house on my own, and I bought a townhouse in Sterling.  I thought I could sell my house, move to CA and go to school, and I did.  I thought that I could drive across the country by myself, and I drove back from CA to Virginia alone. I know that I would not have been able to do that, had I not thought that I could do it. Knowing this theory though and having read the book “As a Man Thinketh” by James Allen made it easier to join Toastmasters, and begin this blog.

I do not want to spend a lot of time on this, but conversely, when we have negative thoughts, and think that we cannot do it, we do not do it.  Nancy Yahner came up with a little exercise in our office.  Whenever we say something negative about ourselves, she said, “Boing, Boing”.  At first, we heard a lot of Boing, Boings.  Now, we rarely hear it because we are so aware.  It really helps you get out of that self-defeating habit.

I cannot emphasize how well this works!  You are lucky readers, because I found a place where you can get your own copy of “As a Man Thinketh” and it is FREE!  Visit to download your own copy.  Of course, I would love to hear your success stories here on Mintdom,

Now, I am off to the pool for a couple of hours.

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to.

Life is good!

  1. “As a Man Thinketh” by James Allen is one of my favorite books. I have it printed in a binder right beside me. 🙂 I’m not sure why nickname links are not showing up on my blog, and will try to figure it out. Maybe it is theme specific. My toastmasters blog is ninatoastmasters at wordpress, in the very beginning stages. Thanks for being a great inspiration. 🙂
