Are You a Risk Taker?

02/17/10 – 2,833 Steps

Good morning Mintdom,

In the past, I have not thought that I was a risk taker. I have never driven in a motorcycle race, climbed a mountain, gone bungee jumping, or hang-gliding, nor do I ever intend to. Lately though, I have been observing a friend, who is very much an introvert, and just said yes to speaking at a big university. He just found out that the university listed him on the program as an expert in his field. Jeepers – how good did that make him feel? This is because he IS an expert in his field and he was willing to take the risk and say yes.

Now I am thinking that you do not have to dive off a cliff to be a risk taker. I think we take risks in our life more then we think. For example, when I was 50 years old, I sold my house, drove across country, and began school to become a nurse. Although it did not work out, the experience was invaluable for me. I gained a lot of confidence. A smaller risk, but a risk nonetheless, was starting this blog. It took me about a year to click that button for the world to see, the first time. I cannot tell you how many benefits that I have received. I have made friends, been lifted up when I am down, had some great laughs, and learned a lot about the world and myself.

Are you a risk taker? When was the last time you pushed yourself out of your comfort zone? What were the benefits? You do not have to jump out of a plane in order to be a risk taker.
