Most people know that water is required for many of the body’s physiological processes, and decreased water intake is associated with health problems. Left to my own devices, I will not drink water for days. Actually, I am not a big drinker of anything, and water is my least favorite. I am also not a sipper. When I am at work, I do not sip anything; in fact, my coffee often gets cold because I forget about it. Since I am on this quest for better health, I know it is important to drink 8 glasses of water per day. I have heard and read ways to get more water in, but this is the simplest and it is working for me.
Remove other forms of liquid from your diet or instead of having other drinks, just “Stop it!” (See January 2 blog)
Now I drink water with my meals and snacks; I hardly know that I am drinking water. If I eat something spicy, I might drink two or three at a meal, which could mean up to six glasses a day just with meals! I also drink a full glass, first thing in the morning.
One more trick is to heat a cup of water and steep fresh ginger in it. It counts as water and it is such a nice thing to do before bed!
