Our Best Asset!

March 25, 2013

Good morning, Mintdom

I have missed you! I have not written and this will be short because I have been sick for the past 10 days with a good case of bronchitis. Today is my first day back at work and I am so excited! One of the most important things that I learned is that my health (and your health too) is the best asset. Sometimes, I take it for granted but I think it will be a while before I do that again. March is normally when I make my annual trip to the doctor and before I was sick, I was thinking of putting it off. I do not like going to the doctor; however, if I want to avoid going, I need to go for my annual physical and follow the directions she gives me. I do not want to lose my BEST asset?

“The only way to keep your health is to eat what you don’t want, drink what you don’t like, and do what you’d rather not.” – Mark Twain

Are you taking care of your BEST asset or are you taking it for granted?

AffirMINTion: I take care of my BEST asset.

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to.

What are you waiting for?

Life is good!

Count Your Assets

March 11, 2013

Good morning Mintdom

I have the BEST, most generous family and friends. I am so grateful for all who helped me celebrate my 60th birthday. You all or as some of you say, Y’all made me feel so very special. I spent so much of the weekend trying to come up with the words to say thank you. No words seem adequate. If I go along with Robert Quillen’s theory, and my family and friends are my assets, than my profit is sky-high! Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. ::::whispering:::: and I got a Coach bag:::::

“If you count all your assets, you always show a profit.” – Robert Quillen

Speaking of birthdays, I want to wish one of my favorite assets, my friend Ben Heisler a very happy birthday. Ben is one of the smartest, funniest, hardest worker, most loyal, friends that I get to call my friend. Happy birthday, stalker… err friend – I hope you have an awesome day!

AffirMINTions: I am 60 and loving it!

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to.

What are you waiting for?

The Year of Fabulosity!

March 4, 2013

Good morning Mintdom!

Please indulge me for a few minutes this morning. I am bursting at the seams. I had a milestone birthday on Friday. I turned 60 years old – err 60 years young that is. I had a fabulous weekend of celebrating with family and friends. I have so many blessings and so much love in my life. It started with my sister, Nancy (well, it actually started in Fort Campbell, KY with my dad and mom) and ended with Nancy and my kids, grandchildren and my brother and his family at my favorite restaurant. I had awesome Facebook messages. I read them all and I am still working on thanking you all for them. I had phone calls, e-mails, visits, outings, hugs and a ton of love.  I have to be one of the wealthiest people on this earth. Thank you so much, I am grateful for each one of you.

I have never minded birthdays in the past. This year was the exception. I was not in the best frame of mind during the weeks leading up to my birthday. I was a little grumbly about turning that number; however, I now believe that this is the year of Fabulosity! I am SO looking forward to all of the fabulous opportunities (and discounts LOL) that I will have this year. This is just my first 60 years and I am looking forward to my next 60 years!

Here are a few of the remnants of my fabulous birthday weekend! Thanks for indulging me. I will get back to my fabulous regular life now (Nancy).

New Growth!

February 20, 2013

Good morning, Mintdom

spring 2013I have lived in my house for over four years now. Each spring I regret that I had not planted bulbs the fall before. I think, if only I planted bulbs last fall, I could be picking daffodils. Finally, last fall, I went to the store, bought bulbs and a bulb planter and planted 17 daffodil bulbs. The other day, I was getting into my car for work, I looked down, and I saw the most beautiful sight. I saw the beginnings of my little daffodils coming up! I cannot tell you how happy I was to see the new growth.

“Strength and growth come only through continuous effort and struggle.” – Napoleon Hill

I would not say that planting bulbs was really struggle; however, I see that the growth usually comes at a price before you reap the rewards. It cost time to plan the little garden. It cost to buy the bulbs. It cost physical labor to plant and water the bulbs. None of those costs is very high and not only that, but daffodils multiply and therefore the rewards will increase each year.

The new growth inspires me and teaches me a lesson. Growth comes with a price and the rewards are GREAT!

How does your garden grow?

AffirMINTion: I love to learn and there are lessons all around me.

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to.

A Fine Line

February 18, 2013

Good morning Mintdom

Having routines in life is a good thing. Routines help you stick to that exercise program. Routines help you stay disciplined. Routines give you momentum. You have to step out of your routine in order to be spontaneous. While I do believe that routines are good, there is a fine line between holding on to a routine for security and being afraid to step out of your routine and your comfort zone.

I cannot say that I am ever board, but on occasion, I do feel stuck.  When I am feeling that way, a good thing for me to do is to examine my life, my days and my routine. If I am honest with myself, I may feel stuck because I am clinging to a routine and afraid to step out of my comfort zone.  Anyone that knows me knows that I hate missing anything and self-examination works well for me.

Are your routines good for you or are you using them as a way to stay in your comfort zone; it is a fine line.

AffirMINTion: I love my quiet time each morning.

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to.

What are you waiting for?

You Are Special!

February 13, 2013

Good morning Mintdom,

My good friend Deb Saunders wrote and published one of my favorite books. I keep it on hand so it is readily available to read. The name of the book is, ‘The Path to the Springs – A Collection of Poems & Reflections on Spiritual Refreshment’ and it delivers on its promise of ‘Spiritual Refreshment’. I am a Christian; however, I do not believe you have to be a Christian to enjoy it and to feel refreshed. The poem titled, ‘Now’ is one of my favorites.

Now

You are special now
God has made you in a special way
You are special
Now is the time to know
How special you are.
Yes, you are special now.
And remember,
It is always now.

Boggs Saunders, Debra. “The Path to the Springs: A Collection of Poems & Reflections on Spiritual Refreshment, 2009. Leesburg, Virginia “Excerpt: Book.”

Each one of us is special just as we are right now. We have special gifts and talents that we can share with others. I can tell you at least two of my gifts although one can be annoying to others at times. I have the gift of cheerfulness and positivity. This can be annoying to others when they would rather stay angry or negative. I have a girlfriend who tells me on occasion to put my pink pom poms away! One of my talents is that I am a good student. I love to learn!

My question to you this morning is, “What makes you special?”

AffirMINTion: I know that I am special – Now

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to.

What are you waiting for?

Appreciate Life, Love and MoMINTS

February 11, 2013

Good morning Mintdom!

Last night I received an e-mail about an amazing man. His name is Ben Witter billed as the Tiger Woods of Trick Shots! His trick shots are incredible; however, the best thing about him is that he is inspiring! You can judge for yourself though. Click on this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZCtbRDlwzU to be inspired! Ben Witter sure knows how to make lemonade out of lemons.

On a personal note and sort of on the same subject, I have a friend whose husband is dealing with a serious cancer. Their attitude astounds me. Although I imagine that, my friend has had her moMINTS; she comes to the office and is cheerful and upbeat yet does not avoid the subject. I admire her so much and this is a good reminder for me to cherish my loved ones and life in general.

I am so grateful to all of you that read my posts. I know some of you very well and some not as well as I would like. I DO appreciate you and value ALL of your responses. To my family and friends: I love you more than I can put into words. Thank you for all of your love.

Today, make sure you tell someone how much you love and value him or her

AffirMINTion: I let my loved ones know how much I love them.

When Things Go Wrong…

February 8, 2013

Good morning Mintdom!

“When things go wrong, you’ll find they usually go on getting worse for some time; but when things once start going right, they often go on getting better and better.” – C.S. Lewis

Last night my four-year-old refrigerator stopped running. At first, I thought it was just the light, but on further investigation, I believe it stopped. I checked the breakers out in the garage and all looks well there. I am not griping (much); but yesterday was  just one of those days that that did not go my way. Now it just so happens that I came upon the above quote. At first reading, I thought it was a little depressing. What was there in store for me? Would things get worse? I almost passed it up.

Upon reading the quote again however, it became strangely comforting. I did not feel alone; obviously, C.S. Lewis must have had a couple of ‘those days’. Then I saw the hope in the quote; it says, “When things once start going right, they often go on getting better and better.” When I chose to focus on the ‘getting better and better’ part of the quote, I felt better right away. It is funny how that works!

When daylight comes, I will call the appliance people and they will come out and fix it or I will have to buy a new one. I am hoping for the first not the latter scenario but either way, I choose to focus on the positive. Mostly, I believe that everything happens for a reason and that God, my family and friends can see me through anything and after all, it IS ONLY a refrigerator!

What do you do when things go wrong? How do you handle ‘one of those days’?

AffirMINTion: I focus on the positive and have faith that all will work out in the end.

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to.

Good morning Mintdom

Affirmations are a GREAT way to start my day. I imagine some of you are thinking that affirmations are hooky or just some New Age malarkey.  It was not that long ago though that I thought the very same thing. I thought that until I started writing and saying them on my sister Nancy’s recommendation. Now, I cannot imagine going one day without at least one. Affirmations have contributed to my mood and sometimes even changing it. Some affirmations have stopped that anxious feeling that I get sometimes. One of the most powerful things that affirmations do is to dispel negative energy.

“Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you’ll start having positive results.”

 – Willie Nelson

This morning, I thought I would give some examples and maybe you would not mind posting one or two that you like. I have a lot of them on 3×5 cards and in my journal. Feel free to use them as you wish.

Here some of my top AffirMINTions:

  1. Something really GREAT is going to happen today, and I can hardly wait to see what it is.
  2. I keep a positive mindset.
  3. I can do whatever I believe that I can do.
  4. I choose to be happy.
  5. I choose to make it a GREAT day.
  6. I love to smile.

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to.

I Am Not Yogurt Fan – Sooo… Why Do I Buy it?

January 30, 2013

Good morning, Mintdom!

Many of you know that I attend Weight Watchers. Last night there was a discussion about small things that we can do during the week in order to have a good week. I told the group that I buy yogurt, even though I do not like it. The instructor asked, “Why in the world would you buy something that you do not like”. My response was that I buy it to self-regulate. If I have snacks that I do not love, I will not eat that much. Voila – instant portion control! It is a small thing and helps me in a great way; however, I bet you will not see it in any diet books!

“If you can’t do great things, do small things in a great way.” ― Napoleon Hill

Do you have any small things that you do that help you in a great way to live a better life?
