09/19/09 – No Data

Food Journal – Yes

Welcome, to another Weekend Edition of Mintdom!

Ok, there is no data from yesterday because I did not even put on my pedoMINTer (Michelle <smile>).  I slept in until 8:00 yesterday and I got productive right away by making my bed.  I had a nice smoothie for breakfast, and got ready to go to the pool.  I walked out the door and it was actually TOO cold to go to the pool.  I chose not to walk too.  I figured I would go to the pool later in the afternoon when it warmed up, and if it did not warm up, I would swim in the indoor pool.  After 2:00, I made it up to the pool.  It was beautiful!  I finished the book I was reading “Training Camp” and decided to go in and swim.  Well, I never made it inside.  I saw a girlfriend and we ended up sitting out in the sun for the next hour or so, and then I ended up going home.  Therefore, yesterday did not walk, swim, or go to gym.  Do you see a lesson in all this?  I certainly see it.  The lesson for me is, ‘Do It Now’ or it will probably not get done. Jeepers – September is looking a little skimpy on the exercise.  I need to really need to have a Mint Blitz until the end of the month, which is only a little over a week away.

My Mint Blitz starts or I should say, started today in the form of my retreat with myself.  (To see retreat schedule, click on MintBlitz tab) My daughter Patsi laughed and said that most people call this alone time.  She asked me if I was going to put signs up on my doors to designate which room had which activity!  Well, I am not putting up any signs, but I am having different activities.  I learned my lesson from yesterday, and I started by making my bed before it cooled off, got dressed in gym clothes, turned on FitTV , http://www.FitTV.com and did a cardio workout WITH my pedoMINTer on.  I did the low impact exercise because my knee is giving me a fit, and I am getting nervous now that the doctor might tell me to stop, so I am babying it.  I still had a GREAT workout and worked up a good sweat.  I am going to try this for a while along with swimming a couple of days a week after work.

FitTV

FitTV

I also discovered the best site that I have come across.  It mixes health and life goals together, and the BEST part is that it is FREE – EVERY part of it is FREE.  It began when Chris Downie started an auction site that was so successful that EBay bought it.  Now Chris’s mission is to Spark people to meet not only their health goals and to lose weight but any other goals you have in mind, AND he has already spent $5 million dollars of his own money to do this.  Watch this video for more details.

Fox News Video Sparks People

Fox News Video Sparks People

The site is www.SparkPeople.com.  It is such a robust site, AND you get points for meeting your goals, which perfect for us Facebook game people!  My name is TheMint2 (TheMint was already takenL) and if you decide to sign up, please write that TheMint2 referred you because I get points!  LOL!  Anyway, it is an amazing site, started by an amazing man – try it today.

Well, I have six minutes before my next retreat activity, so I will sign off for today.  Try FitTV and Spark People – I promise it can help you.  Now… on to my next activity – cleaning out the refrigerator!

Make it a MintBlitz day, IF you choose to.

The Mint’s Rubber Tree Plant

Posted by The Mint on September 18, 2009

Food Journal – No

Good morning Mintdom!

I had another low step day.  <sigh>  I am noticing that I have too many sitting down jobs.  Of course, it certainly does not help that I have not been going out in the mornings.  This is the last morning that I do not go out.  Does it ever seem to you that it is difficult to focus on all areas of your life at once?  All areas to me are spiritual, family, business, financial, and personal.  Even if I push myself, at least two or three suffer at any given time.

“Be not afraid of going slowly; be afraid only of standing still.” –Chinese Proverb

In the past, this would be the time, is when I would get down on myself for not making enough progress.  Today, I remind myself that I am a failure ONLY if I quit!  I have no plans of doing that.  Remember that song about ‘the rubber tree plant’ – called High Hopes.  I DO have ‘high hopes’ that I can move MY rubber tree plant!  I think that my retreat on Sunday will give my engine a little extra strength and vision to do just that!

Out of The Mint Zone

Posted by The Mint on September 16, 2009

Food Journal – Yes

Good morning Mintdom!

I feel much better this morning and this will be the last day of no intentional walking / exercise in the morning. Today, I am committing to at least 5,000 steps.  I know that I can do it if I focus.  I need to focus on my health and my business today.  I mentioned this before but I write down four things that are vital for me to do each day (most days).  It is a good way to stay focused, and gives me four things to put over on my 10 accomplishMINTs page! I know, I know another journal LOL but trust me it works.  Have you tried it yet?  I thought I would share mine with you today; here are my four vitals for today.

1.  Coffee with two business owners who are dear friends

2.  Complete brochure and power site for client

3.  Food Journal

4.  Planning committee meeting/dinner for KW retreat

“Do a little more each day than you think you possible can.” –Lowell Thomas

“It’s never crowded along the extra mile.” –Wayne Dyer

Jeepers – sometimes I think I read too much!  I came across these two quotes this morning, and I realize that I have one more thing that I need to do before I go to bed tonight.

5.  Write the agenda for Communications Committee for meeting on Thursday.

I know that if I want to be successful in any area, I need to keep my goals in front of me, I need to push myself, I need to remain focused, and go that extra mile.  I think that means I am probably going to be out of my Mint (comfort) zone a lot.  One last thing that I learned along this journey is that success comes with sacrifice, and that is why “it’s never crowded along the extra mile.”  I am willing to “do a little more each day…” are you?  Share your thoughts by visiting www.Mintdom.com, and do not forget to take the poll while you are there.

Thanks for your patience these couple of weeks, and for the nice notes and calls.  You all are the BEST!

AffirMINTion:  I am willing to pay the price for my success.

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to.

Hair Mints!

White Food – No (wafer crackers) I did not even think about it until I had 5 that they were white. <Sigh>

Good afternoon Mintdom!

My youngest child turned 30 on Friday, I am getting my hair cut and :::::::shhhh colored::::::: and a real estate ad sent me on a total head trip this morning.  What does my youngest child turning 30, getting my hair done, and a real estate ad have in common.

Please bear with me for a moment.  Maybe you have this figured out already, but as I was on the treadmill this morning, I started to think about what I was going to do with my hair.  My hair does not look as bouncy as it used be, and my first thought is that it is probably because I am getting older.  Gosh – in 4 years I will be sixty years old!  Then the realization that my youngest is 30 years old just put me over the edge.  I thought I am old, overweight, old, single, and old!  Now I do not normally think about my age.  I do not look or act old, so this was a very unpleasant feeling.  As much as I immerse myself in positive reading, music, and people, it takes but a nano-second to head down the wrong path. The good news is that the feeling did not last long. By the time I walked home, started my morning reading, I was feeling better.  The following quotes cinched it.

“Drag your thoughts away from your troubles… by the ears, by the heels, or any other way you can manage it.” –Mark Twain

“It is important to remember that our thoughts are like water for a garden.  Wherever we let them wander, they will water that area, and help it grow.”

–Brook Noel from her Good Morning book

Although I do not have a garden at my house, in a way I am a gardener of my life. My faith in God nourishes my ‘garden’ and I water it daily with positive people; by reading positive books and articles; and listening to positive music.  These are the things help me grow and change, in order to lead a healthy and balanced life.

I bet you are wondering how the real estate ad fits in with growing and changing and hair.  One of the driving forces (I debated on saying fertilizer but I think that could go down a wrong path ha ha ha) in my garden is my sister Nancy. Nancy has been in real estate for 20 years.  Several years ago, she did a real estate ad in the newspaper showing all her different hairstyles over a period of 14 years.  The ad said something like, “Some things may appear to change over the years, but the quality of service remains the same.”  If I were doing that ad today, it would say,

“No matter how her hairstyle changes, Nancy remains dedicated to her family, friends, and her quest to grow and improve.”

I tried to figure out a way to surprise you with this photo, but the only thing I came up with is this:

My Youngest Mint’s Birthday!

Posted by The Mint on September 4, 2009

09/03/09 – over 8,000 steps

Food Journal – yes

White Food – yes!

10,000 welcomes

Good morning Mintdom!

This is what greeted me at the office yesterday.  I swear, I have the MOST encouraging, awesome people around me, and the creator of this welcome is my sister!  I am blessed!

Yesterday my pedometer reset itself three times!  I have gotten into the habit of checking regularly.  I looked right before the first time it reset and it was 5,000 something.  The second time was 567, and the third time it was 1,252. and it ended on 1,572.  I did not calculate the steps I missed so I am just saying over 8,000.  I am happy with that. I need to be a little more careful to pause and / or unhook it when I am doing a lot of bending.

Happy Birthday to You

Today is my youngest child, Kelly, turns 30 today.  It is so hard to believe; it seems like such a short time ago.  Kelly was born during hurricane David.  My brother Jon and my cousin Roxanne came to the hospital with my husband and me.  We thought about changing the name to David if it was a boy or Davida if it was a girl.  Wow, Kelly, you lucked out!  LOL!  Kelly was a very easy baby from the beginning.  She slept through the night on her first night home!  I used to rock her and sing to her a lot.  I sang about how beautiful she was on the outside and inside too.  Kelly is still beautiful, and she is beautiful on the inside as well.  Kelly is sweet, thoughtful of her family and her friends, smart, capable (she owns 2 businesses, and 1 full-time management job). Kelly is always there to lend a helping hand to her family and friends.  She is a lot of fun and has a GREAT sense of humor. I am proud to have Kelly for a daughter.  Her only flaw is that she is not willing to lie about her age.  I think she should say she is 21 today so people do not start calculating my age! LOL!  I love you, Kelly – Happy Birthday to you! xo xo xo xo xo

I am late writing Mintdom today because I took the day off from work for a little Staycation.  So I am off to the pool!

AffirMINTion:  I appreciate ALL the people in my life

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to.

A Little Help From My Friends!

Posted by The Mint on August 2, 2009

07/31/09 – 4,321

08/01/09 – 6,713

Good morning Mintdom!

Yesterday, we had our TYG 1st Saturday of the month walk (our Red Shoe Campaign to support the Red Cross and Habitat for Humanity) on the W&OD Trail.  There were only three of us this month.  I think that there are many people on vacation, and it is hot and humid so that probably accounted for the low number.

One thing that I noticed is that my back did not begin hurting until we almost reached the turn-around spot AND I went further then I went before!  Whoo hoo!  Three months of walking and I can FINALLY see some progress! Jeepers – it DOES seem like it takes an awful long time, but I am determined to continue.

Maybe it seems like this journey is easy for me – I want to let you know that it is not.  I struggle each morning to get out of bed at 5:00 AM to get ready to walk.  Trust me, I would rather stay under my covers in my nice cozy bed then to get up even before it is light.  I also do not like to sweat (I am too much of a girlie girl for that LOL) and it is hot and humid in the mornings right now.  Having said all that, I want to stop now, and take this opportunity to thank my family and friends for helping me in this journey.  My family and friends bolster my determination.  I do not think for a minute that I could do this without you.  I am such a lucky Mint!

I would appreciate it if you could share your friendship stories.  Many of my family members are my friends too, so feel free to include family members.  If you have other quotes on friendship, I would love you to share that here www.Mintdom.Wordpress.com.  Thank you for being in my life and a part of my journey.

That is it for the weekend edition of Mintdom.

July 25, 2009 – A MoMINTous Day!

Posted by The Mint on July 26, 2009

07/24/09 – 4,571

07/25/09 – 15,796!!!!!

Good evening!

OMG!  Yesterday was an awesome day.  It was the first day that my steps reached over 10,000, and it was an amazing and record for me; however, it was not the best part of my day.  The best part of my day was sharing it with my family, and friends to celebrate the wedding of my nephew and now my new niece.  One of my favorite moments was during the ceremony the bride started tearing up.  The groom notice right away, reached into his pocket, and handed her a hankie. A small gesture maybe; however, it is not surprising that the groom was focused on his bride instead of himself as that is the way he is in their life, which to me, is huge!

Not only was it a spectacular party with all the trimmings that you can imagine; it was the love of this beautiful, young couple shown through them and their family and friends.  From the grandparents, right down to the great grandchildren, love was in abundance from the minute you walked into the garden until the last guest left.  People came from all over the country and from Sweden and Germany to celebrate this couple’s love.  It was such a love fest!

Yesterday was moMINTous, and one that I will remember as the day that I first walked over 10,000 steps and the start of a beautiful life for my handsome nephew and lovely niece.

Choose Your Mint!

Posted by The Mint on July 15, 2009

07/14/09 – 4,639

Good morning!

Gosh!  When I do not walk in the morning, it is so difficult to get my steps up over 5,500, which is the minimum I need to do EVERY day if I have a chance to do the recommended 10,000 a day before the end of the summer.  Today, I am back on track.  I have almost 4,000 steps (2 miles) in and it is barely 7:00 am.  THAT is what I am talking about; although, it feels good to stay in my comfortable bed, it actually feels better to get up and get moving!

Now that I have my numbers out of the way for the morning, I have a request.  Someone, who shall remain nameless, does not like the name of the blog.  Personally, I think it is cute and I love being the Empress of the Mintdom (kingdom); however, I have a lot of respect for this person and since I am a fair (and cute) ruler of my world, I have this request:  please e-mail or post some different names for Mintdom, I would really appreciate it.  I will post the names on Mintdom, anonymously , then hold them up for a vote. It will be exciting to see what everyone comes up with!

Ben Stein said, “The first step to getting the things you want out of life is this: decide what you want.”

I want to do 10,000 steps by the end of the summer so I am continuing to choose to walk each day

Hello world… And the Beat Goes On….

Posted by The Mint on July 10, 2009

Even though Greta Van Susteren’s 30 day experiement ended abruptly, I am committing to another 30 days of counting my steps and reporting them to my favorite people.
07/10/09 – 3,442

Good morning!

And the steps go on (singing to the tune of Sonny & Cher’s The Beat Goes On)  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qU10TZs1ow0

Ok… I did not really sing it, but I think that you get the idea. Just because the GretaWire experiment if over, I plan to continue to count my steps, and report them to you and the universe.  I am determined to get healthy.  Now that the experiment is over, I DO need to have a more specific and immediate goal, so I am committing to another 30 days of counting and posting.  I am setting up a new blog site to share my stats and Minties there.  Of course, it will be a shortened version, but you, my VIP Mints, will get the full story!

Right now, I am off to the pool!  I hope you all have a GREAT day.  I love you all and appreciate all the support that you give me in my quest for health!
