AffirMINTions!

February 6, 2013

Good morning Mintdom

Affirmations are a GREAT way to start my day. I imagine some of you are thinking that affirmations are hooky or just some New Age malarkey.  It was not that long ago though that I thought the very same thing. I thought that until I started writing and saying them on my sister Nancy’s recommendation. Now, I cannot imagine going one day without at least one. Affirmations have contributed to my mood and sometimes even changing it. Some affirmations have stopped that anxious feeling that I get sometimes. One of the most powerful things that affirmations do is to dispel negative energy.

“Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you’ll start having positive results.”

 – Willie Nelson

This morning, I thought I would give some examples and maybe you would not mind posting one or two that you like. I have a lot of them on 3×5 cards and in my journal. Feel free to use them as you wish.

Here some of my top AffirMINTions:

  1. Something really GREAT is going to happen today, and I can hardly wait to see what it is.
  2. I keep a positive mindset.
  3. I can do whatever I believe that I can do.
  4. I choose to be happy.
  5. I choose to make it a GREAT day.
  6. I love to smile.

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to.

What are you waiting for?

Life is good!

We Can Change Our Mind!

January 23, 2013

Good morning Mintdom

I thought I found my ‘Word of the Year’ (devotion) at the beginning of this month; however, another word keeps coming to my mind too strongly to ignore. That word is ‘Now’. My mom told me once, “If you think of it, do it now”. That is such excellent advice and I decided to change my word now!

I need to put this away, now.
I will turn off the TV, now.
I will exercise, now.
I will clean my kitchen drawers, now.
I changed my word of the year to now, now.

So there are two messages to my post today: You can change your mind if something is not working for you and if you think of it, do it now. Of course, you might not be able to do something now; however, you CAN write it down, now. Do you have a ‘Word of the Year’?

AffirMINTion: I can choose to change my mind, now!

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to.

Lighten Up!

January 9, 2013

Good morning, Mintdom!

My last post talked about the 7 Day Mental Diet. In that vein, I would like to continue with a Zen story. In Eckhart Tolle’s A New Earth – Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose, he tells the story about two monks, Tanzan and Ekido traveling along a muddy road after a heavy rain. The pair came upon a young woman trying to cross the road without soiling her silk kimono. Tanzan at once picked her up and carried her across the road. The monks walked on in silence. After five hours, Ekido could not restrain himself any longer. “Why did you carry that girl across the road?” he asked. “We monks are not supposed to do something like that.”  “I put the girl down hours ago, said Tanzan. “Are you still carrying her?”

zenmonks

If you are struggling with the 7 Day Mental Diet, perhaps you are like Ekido and carrying something on your shoulders unnecessarily. This story gave me a good visual to help me to put down any extra baggage. Even if you are not following this special diet, are there things that are weighing you down? Are you like Tanzan or Ekido?

Simplicity is making the journey of this life with just baggage enough.” – Charles Dudley Warner

AffirMINTion: I carry only very light baggage.

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to.

My First Diet of 2013

01/04/2013

First Diet of the Year

I know there are millions of people that that start their year with a new diet. The gyms and weight loss centers are normally their fullest in January; however, this diet is different and one that you only have to be on for one week to see a difference. Does it sound too good to be true? It is not – this diet will take loads of weight off but not off your waistline – it will take a load off your mind. Yes, this is a 7-Day Mental Diet; it comes from a little book called ‘The 7 Day Mental Diet How to Change Your Life in a Week’ by Emmett Fox.

I believe that the condition of my life rests on the condition of my thoughts and my feelings. I choose the life that I want to lead by choosing the thoughts I allow my mind to focus. In other words, I have the power to change my life with my mind. Your mind, turn it to a positive

The challenge is that for 7 days; do not allow yourself to dwell for even a minute on any kind of negative though. As soon a negative thought appears, let it go or turn it around to a positive. If you fall off the diet, then start over.

This challenge is difficult, so to help you, it is probably a good idea to turn off the news, recycle your newspaper BEFORE reading it and avoid negative situations and people. Instead, surround yourself with positive music, reading and people.

The 7 Day Mental Diet can change your life – you have the power to choose.

AffirMINTion: I entertain only positive thoughts.

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to.

Happy New Year from The Mint!

01/01/2013

Happy New Year, Mintdom!

Jeepers, it just seems like summer was over and the pool just closed and now the Holidays are over and it is 2013! My, my, my, life sure goes by quickly. I do not know about you, but I had a GREAT year with a new church, new and old family member, including Minty, awesome friends, a gratifying job and a wonderful home to live in.

Like Mondays, I love January 1 of any year. It is the Superbowl of Mondays! It is a chance for a fresh start, not just for the week, but for the whole year – heck for our whole lives. Although, I guess that making a new year’s resolution is not necessarily the ‘in thing’ to do these days; however, I like to make one along with the rest of my goals and this year I am adding a ‘word for the year’.

The Mint’s 2013 Word: Devotion (Profound dedication; consecration, earnest attachment to a cause, person, etc)

The 2013 Mint Resolution: Each day for the year 2013, I resolve to devote my time, energy and resources to my health – my spiritual, emotional and physical health

Minty Goals: Written with deadlines will hang by my desk at work and taped to my planner cover. I will share them during the year.

AffirMINTion: I am devoted to writing Mintdom each week.

Good morning Mintdom!

<;;;;walking tentatively into Mintdom>;;;; It has been a long time since I posted – mainly because I did not feel like I had anything to share or was not willing to share; however, I missed being here and ALL of you. Even more so, I NEED all of you and the accountability that I get from writing regularly; therefore, I am hitting the Reset Button again.

The nice thing about the Reset Button is that it is always there and you can hit it anytime and as many times as you need to. There have been times that I hit that button more than once a day! The Reset button is nice, too, because once it is hit it is a FRESH START! The mistakes I made are in the past and are good only as learning experiences.

“Keep on beginning and failing. Each time you fail, start all over again, and you will grow stronger until you have accomplished a purpose – not the one you began with perhaps, but one you’ll be glad to remember.” – Anne Sullivan

Have you ever needed to hit the Reset Button? Would love to hear your experience.

Good morning Mintdom!

I am still wearing my pedometer and I will not bore you with a step count however, my steps are a low of 4,200 and a high of 11,339 steps. I normally stay in the 5,500 to 6,000 range. Looking at this, I need to step it up! LOL The one thing that I DO, do well when it comes to moving is that I keep putting that pedometer on and I keep working at improving.

I think I get that persistence from my parents who are of tough Minnesota stock. For example, my mom just had a hip replacement in January and she has amazed us all by her perseverance in getting back on her feet. She did everything right with determination and without complaint. She has been walking without a cane for a few weeks. My dad had chest pains on Thursday, his doctor admitted him to the hospital and on Friday AFTER a battery of tests had a stent put in. My mom was at his side the whole time. He was out of the hospital on Saturday, and ALL this is in the midst of getting their house ready to put on the market this week!

On a little side note – when my dad had his first EKG they told him he had the EKG of a 20 year old. After the Nuclear Stress test, they told my dad that he had an EKG of a 30 year old. I told my dad that he better get out of the hospital before he turned 40! BTW, my dad is actually 80 years old! He is a GREAT example of perseverance – he has exercised daily for his life!

I think this video is a GREAT example of perseverance.  http://youtu.be/wWt3CmSIcKA

Minty Mondays: Victory and Celebrations

Ready to Party!

02/05/ 2012 – 5,972 Steps

I love this quote from Winston Churchill and have it on my bathroom mirror to remind me to be bold, persistent, and diligent in working towards my goals. It also reminds me that victory does not come easily and/or quickly.  I know that my aim is to lead a healthy lifestyle. This quote reminds me how serious I need to be when it comes to leading a healthy lifestyle, for without it, there is literally no survival. Of course, Minty reminds us to celebrate when we achieve our goals. Sometimes I think that Fun is really her middle name and not Fresh!

What are your aims? Do you take them seriously? Are you celebrating your victories?

Good morning, Mintdom!

I am back to wearing my pedometer every day – Whoohoo!  It really DOES make me more conscious of my movements. There is another person in my office that wears one and we have compared our steps before. Hmmm, I feel my competitive nature bubbling up.

Minty idea – I wonder who might be interested in a little competition to see who walks the most steps in a month. If any of you (Lisa) are interested, let me know.

I love Minty’s quote today. It takes being conscious of your life to really live! I believe that Howard Thurman was referring to people who are living life to the fullest, not just live bodies. If I want to make the world a better place, I need to know what I am passionate about and set my goals accordingly.

Being aware of the things that motivate me is an essential tool in helping me achieve my goals and making the most out of my life. What are some of the tools that you use to achieve your goals?

The New Year is Not a Do-Over!

01/02/2012

Happy New Year Mintdom!

Originally, I planned this post with some reflections of the past year and my goals for this year until I saw this quote. Although I did take, time to reflect, my focus is on this year. This quote is my theme for the first quarter of the year.

“The New Year is not a do-over; it is an opportunity to take your next big step.”  Author Unknown

I love the start of a new year – so many opportunities lie ahead of me! I love the sound of 2012 and I think it is going to be a GREAT year! I know that some of you do not like to make New Year resolutions; however, I think it is the perfect time to do so. My resolution is simple and challenging; here it is.

I resolve to meet my goals.

My overall theme of the whole year is to (drum roll please) take a risk.

There – I said it! Let it be said, let it be done. This year I want to do more to stay out of my comfort zone, and now that I have it in writing for the world to see makes me accountable (right Nancy? LOL); it is also a helpful tool (hint, hint) in achieving my goals. I will share my goals throughout the year, but my big one – my opportunity to take MY next BIG STEP is to complete my first book by the end of June. Yikes – I am really pushing myself; see how it works? Have you written your goals yet and shared them with someone? I know it works to write and share them, feel free to do so here. In any case, I wish all of you a healthy and prosperous 2012!

AffirMINTion: I am a risk-taker.
