Just Because ‘It’ Rings….

February 1, 2013

Good morning Mintdom!

Last night, I spent the evening with my parents and a good friend of mine. It was such a nice evening with GREAT food and conversation. My sister was guest bar-tending there to raise money for a good cause and several friends attended. The one thing that stood out was that I did not see one person in the group pick up their cell phone. Now, many important business people attended and it might surprise you that no one used their cell phones. The event and my sister raised a nice amount of money; there was much laughter heard and phones ignored. Do you remember life before the cell phone? We actually survived without them and sometimes I think we were better off without them.

“One of the greatest gifts you can give to anyone is the gift of attention.” – Jim Rohn

When was the last time you attended an event or just a dinner where you gave your exclusive attention to someone? Do remember the last time someone gave you their undivided attention?

How to Be More Resilient!

Good morning Mintdom,

Yesterday, I heard something is very useful to me. It is three things that I can do to be more resilient. I can apply them to any of my work or personal goals.  When something in my life does not go the way I want it to go, or when something happens that might normally knock me off my path, here are three things that can help:

1. Immerse myself into a project that I am passionate. This redirects my thinking into something positive.

2. Call on my support system.  These are people that I am close to, people that I can be honest with, people who are honest with me and people who I know have my best interest at heart.

3. Take extra good care of myself.  Make myself a nice meal, take a nice hot bath, get a pedicure or manicure (if it is in the budget ha, ha), go with a friend to coffee, and of course, play snuggle with Minty.

I Know Where I Am Going

06/07/10 – 3,498 Steps
1 hour 40 minutes of exercise (571 calories burned)
Ok… so only 3 glasses of water….

Good morning Mintdom,

I am feeling better and better about this swimming thing. My only issue with last night was that I did not get home until 8:00 so I ended up eating late.  I DID sleep better though, almost 5 hours in a row!

“If you don’t know where you are going, you’ll end up someplace else.” –Yogi Berra

I was texting with an old friend this morning and she wanted to know what my plan was today as far as exercise.  I said that I did not know.  Well according to this quote – I had better have one.  Therefore, I plan to go to the gym after work and do some free weights and the bike.

I am running a little late this morning so I am going to sign off.  Thank you for all your prayers and the GREAT resources for my dad. You are awesome!

Upping the Ante

5/26/10 – 6,933 Steps

Good morning Mintdom!

Now that is a better step count.  I like it when I am over 6,000 although; it is still short of my 10,000 steps again.  I am creeping up there though!  Jeepers – it just dawned on me what is holding me back.  I am not seeing myself as a 10,000 step a day person.  I am looking at myself as an ‘at least 6,000 step person’.  I am doing just what I am expecting myself to do.  I am going to try a little experiment.  For the next two weeks, I am going to do at least 7,000 steps a day.  I am excited to see what happens when I up the anti.

“You’ve done it before and you can do it now.  See the positive possibilities.  Redirect the substantial energy of your frustration and turn it into positive, effective, unstoppable determination.” –Ralph Marston

Are you reaching your goals?  What do you expect of yourself? Maybe it is time for you to up the anti.

AffirMINTion: I do what I expect of myself.

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to.

More Chances to Get it Right!

05/23/10 – 4,414 Steps

5/24/10 – 4,159 Steps
1-hour exercise

It has been a few days since I have written, and my step count is low, but I HAVE been drinking my water!  It just seems that I cannot do it all!  Yesterday I joined a water aerobics class so I did get my exercise in, but cannot wear pedoMINTer in the pool or the watch I wear that monitors my exercise!

In addition, I have been cutting back on my TV watching.  I have been going to bed earlier, although it has not helped me get up earlier, and reading.  I am one of those multiple book readers.  If you have not read books by Jon Gordon, (The Energy Addict, The Energy Bus are a couple) I strongly suggest his books.  If you are not a big reader, they are especially good as they are very easy to read.  I also picked up Teaching a Pig to Dance – A Memoir of Growing Up and Second Chances by Fred Thompson.  I normally only read business or self help type books, but the title of the book intrigued me.  I am enjoying his wit and wisdom and of course I love the idea of second chances.  I am getting at least a second chance at getting healthy – second, third, forth…. LOL   Here are a couple of quotes from him.

“Teaching Latin to someone like me in high school was somewhat like trying to teach a pig to dance. It’s a waste of the teacher’s time and it irritates the pig.” –Fred Thompson

“Minor surgery is surgery that someone else is having.” –Fred Thompson

I think you get the flavor. Anyway, today, my go.al is to step up my step count, work hard, eat well, enjoy some time with friends, and of course, read and rest.

“No matter how busy you may think you are, you must find time for reading, or surrender yourself to self-chosen ignorance.” – Confucius

AffirMINTion: I love to read!

H2O Big and Small

05/19/10 – 10,884 Steps

8 glasses of water

Good morning Mintdom,

Wow! This water thing is helping my step count besides being good for me; although, I have to tell you I do not love drinking this much. I was just talking with my sisters and before all this, I could go days without drinking water. I never noticed that until this evening during our conversation. Anyway I am keeping it up for at least the month of May. So here is a photo of my water bottle BEFORE the bet beside the one I am using now. Big difference, huh. I know… my trainer laughs at me every time I bring in this little bottle!

My h2o before the bet and my h2o AFTER the bet

“Water is life’s mater and matrix, mother and medium. There is no life without water.” –Albert Szent-Gyorgyi

I received a couple more tips yesterday

From several friends: Drink at least 4 before Noon

From my friend Susan – Take 4 16.9 water bottles, mark each one 1,2,3,4. Drink the first one in the morning then you just have 3 more to go. She keeps her cold. Susan admits that this is not a green alternative, but if you are serious about being green, you could purchase 4 reusable bottles and fill them up each day. Susan also suggests to drink hot with lemon

Thanks for the help!

Drink of the Wise!

05/17/10 – 4,341 Steps

30 minutes of exercise

05/18/10 – 6,635 Steps

8 glasses of water in!

Drink of the Wise

Good morning Mintdom!

Who would have thought that getting 8 glasses of water down in one day would be so challenging! My dear sister, Becky helped because we have a bet going that we need to drink 8 glasses of water a day and the first one that doesn’t has to buy the other one a manicure. I swear, I think she fudged her water intake so I would not lose! LOL She is the one who found the water picture and she will send me an e-mail with 5 of those photos to remind me to drink.

Anyway, we both have 1 day under our belts. The bet lasts until the end of May. Hopefully it will be a habit by then.

“Water is the only drink for a wise man.” – Henry David Thoreau

If you find it difficult to get in your 8 glasses of water a day as I do, here are a couple of tips that I learned.

  1. Drink water through a straw (this is a help for me)
  2. Put a little flavoring in your water (not for me)
  3. Buy a huge jug to keep your water with you (mine is an obnoxious green so I see it on my desk)
  4. Drink one glass of water the first thing when you wake up. (not for me)
  5. Weight Watchers allows you to count one decaffeinated drink as water per day (not part of my bet)
  6. Keep cold water in your refrigerator (ice water burns more calories)
  7. Make a bet with my sister (or a friend) LOL

How much water do you drink in a day? If you have additional tips, please feel free to share them here

Cleaning and Organizing is Good for the MintMind!

5/14/10 – 7,932 Steps

 5/15/10 – 7,702 Steps

5/16/10 – No Data (did not wear)

 Good morning Mintdom!

I went shopping this weekend and bought a pillow top for my bed and 2 new pillows! I could hardly wait to get to bed and did not want to get out of bed on Sunday and this morning! I was so comfy!

I am on a getting rid of clutter bent right now. When I have clutter around me, my mind feels cluttered too. I spent part of my weekend going through papers, and tossing lots out. I even feel lighter and now, when I open up my desk, it looks so nice! I totally recommend cleaning or reorganizing something if you are feeling funky. If all else fails – go shopping and do some retail recovery! LOL

Directing Change!

05/13/10 – 6,388 Steps

1-hour exercise

Good morning Mintdom!

Even though I wrenched my neck and shoulder, I feel GREAT! With the exception of last night and a few days ago, my eating habits are finally beginning to change. I even ate blueberries out of the container yesterday! Oh, AND although I did not make great choices last night for dinner, I actually LEFT the doggie bag at the restaurant. Baby steps!

“Goals allow you to control the direction of change in your favor.” – Brian Tracy

This morning, I am meeting a friend for coffee and we are supposed to bring three thought provoking questions. I thought that I would share my questions with you to think about.

1. People hide behind masks at one time or another – what masks do you wear? (Examples, busyness, fear, I am not _____enough, what will others think?)

2. What does success look like to you?

3. Do you say, “I have a problem?” or do you say, “I feel troubled?”

I am taking my direction from Brian Tracy and doing a little home retreat this weekend (one advantage of living alone) to look at my goals, organize my life a little, and do some writing. I want to tell you that you are important to me and so many of you have made a huge difference in my life. Thanks for accompanying me on my journey.
