Happy New Year – 2014!

January 1, 2014

Happy New Year Mintdom!

I am so excited for the New Year. I know that 2014 is going to be a GREAT year – maybe one of the BEST years EVER! For the second year in a row, I have a word for the year. My 2014 word is Legacy. I want to leave a good legacy for my family, friends and community. My focus for the year in everything that I do in my spiritual, family, financial, business and personal life will have to do with my legacy. Now that theme should keep me on the straight and narrow. LOL

One of these goals is to have a Clean House – Mintdom Clean. I do not mean that I am just going to clean my house. I mean that I am cleaning and organizing my life. I want to have a clean house emotionally, physically, mentally, spiritually and have my house and car clean too! Of course, my ultimate goal in my life is to lead a healthy lifestyle and I will be posting progress reports often. I am never giving up on this goal.

Lastly, one of my goals for the year is to complete writing my first book. I am very excited about it. I have some good plans to get me unstuck. I will let you all know. . I should have a very busy year this year!

Of course, I would be remiss in not sharing my exciting news that my oldest daughter is expecting a little girl in March! My youngest daughter and I will be heading to North Carolina as soon as we hear that she is in labor. Whoo hoo!

Thank you all for being in my life and for all the love and encouragement that you guys so generously give to me. I am grateful to each one of you. I hope this year bring you and yours much good health, happiness and success.

AffirMINTion: I love a Mintdom Clean House and I will have one in 2014!

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to.

What are you waiting for?

Life is good!

Can You See Your Dad in the Video?

Good morning Mintdom!

My dad is all of these dads in the video and more.  Before my dad retired, he was a high-powered executive. He went to White House dinners, met with CEO’s of large companies and traveled the world. Through it all, even as a self-centered teenager, I knew several things:

He loved my Mom

He loved his family

He loved his country

He loved his community

He loved his home

He loved me

My dad did not just say he loved, he showed it every day. My dad lived his love and devotion and all of these things remain the same today. Can you see your dad in the video – I can and much more

Happy Fathers Day , Dad  yesterday – I love you so much!

AffirMINTion: I want to follow my dad’s example

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to

Life is Good!

PS Yesterday, I also got to celebrate with one of my brother’s for Father’s Day – love you Jeff! Happy Father’s Day to my other brother – I love you too Jon!

Move It!

May 28, 2013

Swimming 1/2 hour

Good morning Mintdom!

Move more, move more, move more and move more. That is what I said to myself while I was in the pool today. I need to repeat that every day. My new goal is to swim! I LIKE swimming. I swam this afternoon and I am sore this evening, which is good news because it means that I did something. I enjoyed and I am sore!

Right now, I can swim freestyle without stopping about three fourths of the pool a couple of times but stopping in between. I want to be out there doing laps. I am not sure how long it will take me, but here is a list of my new goals:

  1. Swim the whole way across the pool
  2. Swim the whole way across the pool and back without stopping
  3. Swim across the pool four times without stopping
  4. Swim be on the Ellen DeGeneres show without stopping
  5. Swim across the pool sixteen times without stopping
  6. Swim across the pool twenty times without stopping

Since I have an indoor pool, I have no excuses for not making my goals. Do you have written goals? Do you have a plan to achieve your goal? If you do not have written goals, then why don’t you? If you have written goals, do you also have a plan?

“A goal without a plan is just a wish.” – Antoine de Saint Exupery (author of The Little Prince)

AffirMINTion: I choose to move more for my health

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to.

What are you waiting for?

Life is good!

PS Goal #4 is not an error – I just wanted to see if you actually read this stuff; although, I do want to be on her show one day! LOL

Good morning Mintdom

Do I ever love my pedometer! I have only had a few days that are below 5,000 steps and I believe I have never had over 10,000 steps in 2 weeks since I started counting.  I need to double that in the next 2 weeks.  I am actually excited about it. If you do not have a pedometer, I suggest that you get one – it really makes a difference!

“If you want to live a happy life, tie it to a goal, not to people or things.” – Albert Einstein

The Surgeon General recommends that we walk 10,000 steps a day for our health. Does that seem like a difficult goal to reach? What are you doing for your health today?

AffirMINTion:  I enjoy setting and achieving my goals.

Wow! A New Biological Discovery

May 6, 2013

5/4/13 – 5,423 Steps

5/5/13 – 6,511 Steps

Good morning, Mintdom

First, I cannot believe that it is not only the year, 2013, but also it is MAY 2013! Life is flying by – phew! Now that I have that out of the way, I believe I discovered a new biological discovery. I think my feet and my brain are connected.  The way I made the connection is that ever since I got my new pedoMINTer, I am much more aware of my moveMINTs for the day, but somehow looking down at the pedoMINTer and seeing how many steps, I am up to really kicks my brain into gear. I have to wait until the end of the day to check to see if I have met my goal with the Active Link. Both are GREAT in their own way; however, if I have not gotten my steps up to over 5,000 before I get home from work, I know that I have work to do.

I wore the pedoMINTer for two days and both days were up over 5,000. My goal is to have at least 10,000 steps a day consistently BEFORE the end of the summer. That is a doable goal. Who knows, maybe someone will do a study on the link between one’s brain and one’s feet and I can take credit for the discovery. LOL

Have you discovered something new about yourself lately? Do you have any new health goals for the summer? All I can say is that we need to hurry with our goals because time is flying by!

AffirMINTion: I move more each day!

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to

What are you waiting for?

Life is good!

PS – Happy birthday to my good friend Jane (trubel to her BEST  and YOUNGER friends) LOL! trubel, I hope you have an awesome day, filled with the love and laughter of your family, my loveliest twin and your friends. :::: hugs::::

A Celebration of Life!

 April 27, 2013

Good morning, Mintdom,

On Friday, I attended a celebration of life for a wonderful woman whose life ended too soon. I met Berty only once; however, I knew of her through her son and my daughter. She was a beautiful woman who lived her life to the fullest. The world lost some of its grace when she left.

With the huge room filled to capacity, it is obvious that many people loved Berty; it showed in her friends that were able to speak at her life-celebration. Although her family and friends will always miss her, my prayer is that the many fond memories will ease the pain of losing her.

My prayer for all of us is that we do not put off that phone call, lunch or note to our loved ones and that we let our friends and family know how much we love them through our words and deeds each day.

AffirMINTion: I express my love to my family and friends each day.

This is Berty and Al with a blanket that she received during one of the times that she was in the hospital. I love the embellishment. It looks like Berty – bright, cheery, warm embellished and happy!

Do Not Put Off the Fun!

April 22, 2013

Good morning, Mintdom

“Procrastination is the bad habit of putting off until the day after tomorrow what should have been done the day before yesterday.” – Napoleon Hill

I am so excited to say that two of my girlfriends and I just booked our hotel for our first summer getaway. I put the procrastination quote first as a way of patting myself on the back, along with my girlfriends planning the vacation. In the past, I have put off making plans only to end up NEVER making them and not going anywhere. Procrastination can also prevent you from having fun! We ALL need to have down time, even if it is a ‘Staycation’.

Have you made plans for YOUR vacation?

AffirMINTion: I practice, do ‘it’ (whatever ‘it’ is) now.

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to.

The Minty Fresh Side of the Street

April 17, 2013

Good morning, Mintdom

There have been times and there will be times when I have conflict with someone. I know it is hard to believe of me! LOL Like many of you, I do not like conflict and I will avoid it as much as I can. You can dress it up by calling it CAREfrontation or something else; however, it is still uncomfortable for me. There is one thing that I have learned in my 50 is the new 60 years of life that has served me well and that is, it does not matter what the other person does. It DOES matter what I do. They can do the wrong things, be dishonest, and even say negative things about me to others; it does not matter. What DOES matter is that I do the right thing. What DOES matter is that I am honest. What DOES matter is that I keep MY side of the street clean. MY side of the street is sunny and MINTY FRESH!  In the past, I would think of ways to get the person who ‘wronged’ me back. Even remembering the energy and wasted time makes me feel tense and brooding. Now, no matter how the other person behaves, I focus on dong the next right thing and keeping MY side of the street clean. I sleep so much better at night!

Lest you think I am a doormat – I am not. Keeping my side of the street clean does not mean that if someone wrongs me, I cannot take action if necessary. I will just take the correct action. How do you deal with conflict? Are you able to keep your side of the street clean?

I hope this song can serve as a little reminder how nice it is to stay on the sunny (Minty Fresh) side of the street http://youtu.be/LEsgLzgH_po

Are You Eating Something or is Something Eating You?

April 12, 2013

Good Morning Mintdom!

As many of you know, I have been sick and have been away from Mintdom for a couple of weeks. I am feeling much better although a little stuck in my writing. I started two other topics this morning; however, this one phrase sticks in my mind:

Feelings are not fact – the fact is you have feelings.

Why is this important? Well… for an emotional eater, it is very important. Many of my feelings are not a fact in my life; however, I DO have them. Today, I am learning to distinguish between feeling real physical hunger and emotional hunger. Here is a little cheat sheet for distinguishing between emotional (feeling hunger) and actual physical hunger.

Emotional Hunger

Strong urge often paired up with strong emotions
No physical signs
Is above the neck
A desire for a particular food – you have to have it!
Is urgent – have to have it now|
Paired with upsetting emotion
Involves automatic absent minded eating
You do not notice that you are full and keep eating
You feel guilty

Physical Hunger

Is gradual – your stomach growls
Is open to different foods
Is based in the stomach – growling, gnawing, rumbling sensations
Is patient
Occurs out of a physical need
Involves deliberate eating and an awareness of eating
Stops when full
Realizes that eating is necessary

As I write this (rather long post), I decided that I need to print this little cheat sheet out and keep it with me as a reminder to eat more out of physical hunger. Honestly, I think my stomach rarely growls. When was the last time that your stomach rumbled?

AffirMINTion: I will not eat to my feelings today.

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to.

What are you waiting for?

Life is good!

PS. I would like to wish a happy birthday to JP Blankenship who is an awesome young realtor on our team and who one of the nicest young men that I know. In fact, if you ask half the builders in Loudoun County, they will say the same. JP is smart, energetic, kind, and tenacious in addition to being a wonderful work mate and friend. Happy birthday, JP, I hope it is a GREAT one!

Hello Mintdom :)

April 5, 2013

Good morning, Mintdom

I do not normally play April Fools tricks; however, this year I decided to try it and honestly, I almost think that the joke was on me, as many of my awesome readers thought that I was serious because did not scroll down to the bottom of the post to see this:

The joke might be on me because I might have lost some of my readers. The good news is that I found out very early in the day how much Mintdom meant to many of you and even more so, I felt the love of many of my friends and family members. I am grateful to say the least. It is truly a gift to know feel that love – thank you sincerely.

On a sadder note, a little over a week ago, the world lost a wonderful, larger than life person, much too soon and way too young. This evening and tomorrow, his family and friends will gather to celebrate his life and mourn his death at age 64. We will certainly miss your ready smile and hearty laugh, Captain.
