Words are Powerful – They Can Hurt or Heal

12/09/09 – 5,906 Steps

Food Journal –  Yes

Good morning Mintdom,

One of my goals in 2009 was to start a blog.  If that was not the best goal that I wrote, then I do not know what it would be! I cannot tell you how rewarding it is for me to write this blog – talking about instant gratification, and I mean that in a good way.  If you ever have a big goal or just feeling a little lonely or disconnected, try writing a blog.  Each day that I write, my rewards are the most wonderful feedback, encouragements, guidance, pats on the backs, and love.  Sometimes it is private and sometimes it is public.  There are days that you bring me to tears at the outpouring of love I receive.  There are days when I want to reach through the screen and hug that person that just shared with me something painful or joyous.  Each day I learn something about me and or about you that move me forward (even when I do not want to) and nudge me closer to my goals.  You lift me up when I am down, you celebrate my accomplishments, and you encourage me at all times.  I just wanted to say thank you, thank you, thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

“”People must remind each other that it can be done, and it must be done.  We must keep up each other’s courage.  In that way, we are enormously strong.”-Vincent van Gogh

Words are powerful, they either hurt or heal and they are powerful tools that help us with our goals.  I am beginning to write my goals for 2010 and I can tell you that writing a blog is definitely on the list – the benefits are amazing!

AffirMINTion: Each day I look for ways to encourage others with my words.

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to.

It Takes a Minty Orchestra…

11/03/09 – 8,125 Steps (whoo hoo)

Food Journal – Yes

Good morning Mintdom,

I knew yesterday was going to be a good step day because we went shopping for more office furniture and accessories.  The store was huge and of course, picking out accessories leads you down many paths.  There were three of us and one on the phone so the ideas were flowing.  We make a GREAT team, and it was actually a lot of fun!

“No one can whistle a symphony. It takes a whole orchestra to play it.” – H.E. Luccock

Speaking of teams, one of the benefits of writing a blog every day is that the people that read it become a team of sorts. Yesterday, I received a call a Mintdom team member who said that I needed to get the whip out of my hand – that I was too focused on what I was not doing.  My first reaction was to protest – I need to be transparent. She said that I needed to focus on loving myself as I am right now.  That hit me like a ton of bricks, and I could actually feel the tears well up inside.  Yikes!  She was right on the mark because I hate the way I look, and I am working hard and I am not losing weight.  I am frustrated most of the time.  I cannot tell you how much I appreciated that call.  Others can see us better then we can see ourselves at times.

My teammate did not leave me high and dry (or wet with tears lol) though; she gave me guidance, and I wanted to share it with you.  Here it is:

She suggested that I look at myself in a mirror, and say something like this, ten times, aloud, “You are beautiful and I love you just the way you are right now.”  She told me to focus on the process, to enjoy the journey and to remember that God loves me just as I am and so does she.

I can feel the tears welling up as I type this. I want to thank my teammate, my beautiful friend for being a part of my orchestra – together along with all of you – we are creating a beautiful symphony.

AffirMINTion:  I am beautiful and I love myself just the way I am right now (said 10x in front of mirror daily)

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to.

Life is good!

Good morning Mintdom!

Yesterday was a moMINTous day in addition to being my sister Becky’s birthday.  I had ah ‘ha ha’ moment when I saw the number of steps I made.  I was only 2,146 steps from reaching 10,000. If I had gone out and walked just a little last night when I got home from the movies, I would have done my 10,000-step goal.  My ‘ah ha’ moment is that, that goal IS reachable!  All I have to do is walk in the morning, maybe go to the store or some place like that, and then walk after I get home from work!  I was all ready for bed when I had it, but I am going to shoot for it today!  I am so excited AND I am telling you now, if *I* can do this, YOU can do this too.  I mean there was a time, not so long ago, that I could not even make it around the block!  This is progress!  <Jumping up and down with glee>

“Find something you’re passionate about and keep tremendously interested in it.”

-Julia Child

I saw the movie, Julie & Julia last night.  It was good.  I was thinking that I should write a Julie & Julia & The Mint blog but, although I like to cook, it is not my passion so it probably would not work.  Thinking a little further though, my passion is certainly not exercising or walking either, although they ARE growing on me.  I think my passion is learning and becoming a close second is writing to all of you through Mintdom!  I can so relate to Julie when she got her first comment from someone that she did not know!  It is equally exciting to receive notes from people telling me that they decided to wear a pedometer, or to start moving more, or to keep a food journal.  That totally psyches me up and I can see myself getting addicted to it.  That is a good thing.  My little issue with Julia Child’s quote is that I believe that if you are passionate about something, you WILL keep tremendously interested in it.  What is your passion?  Have you found it yet?  Sometimes a passion sneaks right up on you as it has for me.  It sure makes life interesting and full when you DO find it.  Feel free to share what your passion is, and how you found it here www.Mintdom.com.
