Hey – Watch Your Language!

January 28, 2013

Good morning, Mintdom,

Words are powerful – they can either hurt or heal (yourself or others). Here is a challenge for you, IF you CHOOSE to accept it. Today, listen to the words you choose during the day and take note of it. This evening, look back at your notes. How did your words, your language affect you, your day or others? Will you do something different tomorrow?

Here are just a few things to watch out for –

Swearing is a Bad Habit: My dad always told me that when you use bad language, it makes you appear less intelligent because it looks like you are unable to pull a better word out of your vocabulary.

“Must swear off from swearing. Bad habit.” – Rutherford B Hayes

Watch Your Words: Words can change your reality if you say you can do something – many times, it happens. If you say you cannot to do something, you probably cannot.

If someone in our office is overheard speaking badly about themselves, someone shouts (softly) BOING, BOING; it is a reminder to speak kindly of ourselves. When we started this years ago, you would hear, BOING, BOING a lot. You rarely hear it these days. We are out of the habit.

“If you think you can do a thing or you think you can’t do a thing, you’re right.” – Henry Ford

Keep Your Word: If you say you will do something – than do it; however, be careful what you promise.

“One lie has the power to tarnish a thousand truths.” – Al David

AffirMINTion: I like to keep my language soft and sweet.

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to.

What are you waiting for?

Life is good!

Good morning, Mintdom!

There are some big changes coming soon to my life as my parents and one of my sisters prepare to move out of the area in the spring. I am so glad that Minty reminded me of the Serenity Prayer. It gives me some direction and some control over how I deal with the change. I thought that I would take this opportunity to ask you how you feel about ‘change’. Do you naturally embrace it or do you fear or dread it? I think I am closer to the fear or dread most of the time, although I would not go that far. I am fortunate to have a strong faith that God will work it all out for my own good; although I have to say, I also fuss with Him before I come around to accepting the change!  LOL Taking an inventory with this little prayer helps me on the road to acceptance. I do not think you have to be a Christian in order to use this prayer as I often said it BEFORE I was one.

Do you have other ways that you deal with change? Even good change can be stressful at times. I would love to hear your thoughts.

AffirMINTion: I ask for wisdom to help me deal with change.

Obstacles Are Good!

05/18/2011

Good morning, Mintdom,

I planned to go to the pool this morning and write to you afterwards, but I overslept so I am writing you now. My new plan is to bring my suit to work and stop off at the pool on my way home.  I am choosing to be flexible today!

http://tinyurl.com/NoLegsArms

I received this Nick Vujicic video from my cousin after my last post.  I have seen a couple of his videos before and each one, I feel more charged to go for my goals! I have no excuses for completing my goals – only choices. We all have obstacles in the way of reaching our goals.  Nick inspires me to continue reaching my goals – If Nick can do it, I can do it!

Who inspires you? What keeps you motivated? How do you handle the obstacles in your life? I would love to see your answers here!

AffirMINTion: I can do anything that I set my mind to.

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to.

What are you waiting for?

Upping the Ante

5/26/10 – 6,933 Steps

Good morning Mintdom!

Now that is a better step count.  I like it when I am over 6,000 although; it is still short of my 10,000 steps again.  I am creeping up there though!  Jeepers – it just dawned on me what is holding me back.  I am not seeing myself as a 10,000 step a day person.  I am looking at myself as an ‘at least 6,000 step person’.  I am doing just what I am expecting myself to do.  I am going to try a little experiment.  For the next two weeks, I am going to do at least 7,000 steps a day.  I am excited to see what happens when I up the anti.

Are you reaching your goals?  What do you expect of yourself? Maybe it is time for you to up the anti.

AffirMINTion: I do what I expect of myself.

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to.

Finding the Elusive Balance

04/15/10 – 7,076 Steps

 04/16/10 – 6,032 Steps

 04/17/10 – 11,346 Steps!!! Whoo hooo!

1 hour of exercise

 04/18/10 – 5,360 Steps

 Good morning Mintdom,

I am moving more and more each day! My body feels it in lots of ways. I did not realize how closed up I am until I started training. It feels good to open up a little and losing 5 pounds does not hurt either! Lol

I have Toastmasters this morning and I am the Toastmaster. I had to pick a theme and I chose balance. I chose it because it is one of my biggest challenges. I do not believe that I am alone in this. I am trying to strike a balance between work, play, and rest. It seems that I am either working or have my mind in work mode and when it isn’t it is in play mode. Now it is difficult to put exercise in a slot. It is not rest, it certainly is not play for me because it really feels more like work, but it doesn’t have anything to do with my job. So… I need to strike a balance between work, play, (play includes family and friends) exercise, and rest. I always seem to be in one mode or another or at the most two modes at a time. My challenge is to balance them all AND eat healthy to boot! How do you balance your life? I need some help with this so any suggestions are welcome. Feel free to e-mail me or post your thoughts on www.Mintdom.com

Is this the secret or is finding balance merely science fiction?

PS I need to fit in Toastmasters, staff meeting, work, eating well (packing lunch), exercise, a healthy dinner, and bed today

Are You Prepared for Life’s Snowstorms?

02/04/10 – 4,649 Steps

 Good morning Mintdom,

We are expecting a big snowstorm today. It is so big that they closed schools yesterday for today. I heard that there were long lines at the grocery stores and you had to wait for parking. I bet there is not a jar of peanut butter, loaf of bread, or gallon of milk anywhere in my area. LOL All I can say is that it is good that we all have had warning, and have time to prepare, but I started to think, about being prepared, not just for a snowstorm, but also for life and the challenges that it brings.

“Life belongs to the living, and he who lives must be prepared for changes.”

~ Johann Wolfgang von Goethe ~

Here is my question to you, “Are you prepared for the snowstorms in your life, or will you be in the long lines at the grocery store?”

I decided to be ‘snowed in’ at my folks’ house. I am looking forward to spending time with them and one of my sisters. In addition, I have a couple of books to read, and computer work to do, so I am looking forward to the next few days.

AffirMINTion: I embrace the challenges in my life.

To all of you affected by the snowstorm – stay safe and stay warm.

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to.

 What are you waiting for?

Take The Minty Plunge!

8/20/09 – 6,821

Good morning, Mintdom!

Yes, I am back and I have the sore muscles to prove it.  It is amazing how quickly I lose ground.  I have to say that, I am still not in the pain that I was at the very beginning while I was walking.  It does not matter anyway, because I am not giving up – permanent period infinity! Do you remember saying that when you were a kid?  Do you remember saying jinx when you said something with someone else at the same time?  The other person could not speak until you unjinxed him/her.  I used to love getting my brother Jon!  LOL! Anyway, I am not giving up my quest to walk the 10,000 steps a day consistently and more so, to lead a healthy, balanced life.

Today, I am learning to lead my life in the way that I choose to lead it. I want to lead my life where my insides match my outsides.  I want my actions to match my beliefs even if they are corny.  I am learning to take risks, and finding that it is not as scary as I think it going to be – like taking that first dip in a swimming pool.  At first feels so cold, but once you get in all the way, once you make that plunge, it is so refreshing on a hot day!  Like this blog, I wanted to write a blog for years, but was afraid it would not be good or I would run out of things to say.  I have a few of them started out there in cyberspace.  Not until I went in ALL THE WAY, did I have a blog, and trust me, I am far from running out of things to say! LOL!

Doing this challenge and my thoughts in public gets a little intimidating; I do not want to fail, and I especially do not want to fail in public.  It is difficult to fail privately, but in public seems a lot worse.  It does not really matter now, because although I have not achieved the 10,000-step goal YET, I have improved my health, and made some new friends in the process. Then there is that old fear that, once you get to know the ‘real’ me, you will not like me that hear every now and then.  I used to give in to that fear too often. Today, I believe that giving in to that fear helped get me to an unhealthy weight, kept me in an unhealthy marriage, and made me an unhappy person and insecure person.  Since I took the plunge into the pool, I found that people DO like me when they get to know me, and I am a healthier, happier, and tanner (single ((sigh)) person!

“One’s real life is often the life that one does not lead.” –Oscar Wilde

Are you leading the life that you want to lead?  If you are not – think about taking that plunge into the pool today!  Feel free to share your thoughts here www.Mintdom.com.

Sharing Mintdom

08/19/09 – 2,685

Good morning Mintdom!

Yesterday, I got a new pedoMINTer. Yikes!  I think that number is the kind of number that I started with on GretaWire.com.  It only takes a minute to lose momentum.  Never fear though – I was back at the gym a little bit after 5:00 this morning!  I have almost doubled that number today already.  I could have stayed a lot longer, but the coffee and Mintdom was calling me!  I can already feel the difference in my mind and my spirit.  So… now, I am back!  Did you all miss me?

I have to tell you that writing this blog every day is an amazing experience for me.  I KNOW without a doubt, that sharing my challenges and successes with you holds me accountable. Without you I, double I would have been at the gym this morning; it was dark and very hot. I really would have preferred to stay in my bed, and my air-conditioned home. You are one of the big reasons that I stay on track, even though I do not see any changes in the way I look.

Another thing that helps me stay on track is something Nancy said to me when I first began working with her.  She said, “I am responsible for everything in our lives.”  It came from the book, “The Success Principles” by Jack Canfield. I argued with her about it.  How can that be?  What about when a sudden illness, death, or an act of God happens?  I just could not get my arms around it.  That was over 4 years ago and I understand it now.  For the past couple of days, that statement keeps rolling around in my head. I now believe it also, and believing it, this principle is freeing because I know no matter what happens in my life, how I deal with it that makes a difference. I see it in big events like how my daughter and her husband are dealing with the sudden death of his son’s mother.  I see it in small events like the loss of a pedoMINTer and in all events and situations in between.  I might not be responsible for a tornado hitting my home; however, I AM responsible for how I deal with it.  Knowing that I am responsible moves me into action. Go to http://www.thesuccessprinciples.com/ to sign up for Jack Canfield’s FREE 21-day online mentorship course.

Are there things that you do in your life that help you stay motivated?  Do you agree with the statement, “I am responsible for everything in my life”?  Please share your thoughts here on www.Mintdom.com.  I think that the quote for today carries this theme even farther.  What do you think?

“If you haven’t the strength to impose your own terms upon life, you must accept the terms it offers you.” –T.S. Eliot

AffirMINTion:  I am responsible for my life.  I seize the day and all that it offers!

AccomplishMINTs!

08/05/09 – 6,064

Good morning Mintdom!

I am happy with my step count from yesterday, especially since I did not walk in the morning. It is interesting that since I started keeping track AND reporting my steps, I find ways to get extra steps in!  I have also noticed that I am naturally moving more.  When I first started the Greta van Susteren challenge, I had to push myself to walk 4,000 steps. Then, Greta challenged me to walk at least 5,500 steps.  Yesterday, I did more then 5,500, and that was without walking!  It is amazing what I can do when I focus.

“Try not to do too many things at once.  Know what you want – the number one thing today, and tomorrow. Persevere and get it done.” – George Allen

I used to be proud of what a GREAT multi-tasker I was until I read the book, “The Power of Full Engagement” by Jim Loehr and Tony Schwartz.  What I am really doing when I am multi-tasking is putting out fires. I am not giving my full attention to anything and it sapped my energy.  When my energy gets low, and I do not seem to be completing things, it is usually because I am in multi-tasking mode!

This year I also took a class online.  “What’s my Purpose” by Dr. Jim White, changed my life in many ways.  Go to http://tinyurl.com/whatsmypurpose if you would like to know more. One of the exercises in this class was to write each night before bed, three things that I HAD to do the next day, and my top ten accomplishMINTs for today.  That REALLY helped me focus, and not only did I find that I got a lot more done, but that I had more energy to do them! Today and for the next week, I challenge you to try that exercise.  At the end of the week, you will have 70 accomplishMINTs under your belt, and I bet that you are a focused person!  Here it is again.

1.  Tonight, write down the three things that you MUST do tomorrow

2.  Tonight, write down your ten accomplishMINTs (one can be that you got out of bed this morning, or got to work on time – accomplishMINTs can be simple)

Are you up for the challenge?  Try it for one week.  Of course, I would love it if you would share your results here on Mintdom, www.Mintdom.com

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to.

The Mint and the Fox

All this walking and getting in shape is sure bringing a lot of growth opportunities and challenges.  One of my challenges is that I am having pedometer issues.  I am in the habit of putting on my pedometer every day, but lately, when I sit – the dang thing resets itself. I tried reading it before I sit down in case it resets, and I add the numbers up at the end of the day.  I have tried wearing two pedometers and comparing (of course I always go with the higher number LOL).  Yesterday, I forgot to look and at noon, the pedometer read 113 steps.  Now, I know that I did not walk yesterday morning but I can stay home and walk more then that! I came up with a new solution.  Each time I sit down, I take the pedometer off and put it on my desk.  That DID work for most of the day; however, at the end of the day, I left it there. I am looking for a solution. I am getting a little frustrated so if any of you fitness buffs have suggestions, please post them here.

Jeepers!  Getting into shape can be hazardous to your health.  This morning I was walking in my neighborhood (I have two miles in already, yeah!) and at the end of the street that I was walking on, I saw something move.  Was it a cat?  Was it a dog?  Was it superman?  No, it was a fox!  I stopped in my tracks.  The fox stopped too, and we looked at each other.  Are foxes like dogs; they might attack if you show fear? I made the decision to turn around and walk the other way.  I turned around to make sure the fox was not following me and it had turned around and walked the other direction too!  Maybe it was just as nervous as I was, though I doubt it! LOL!  I suppose I need to start carrying something bigger then a cell phone and an mp3 player!

Ok, those are my current challenges.  I am sure I will work them out.

As Charles Swindoll says, “I am convinced that life is 10 percent what happens to you, and ninety percent how I react to it.” “And so it is with you…we are in charge of our own attitudes.”

My journey into health is good, with lots of challenges and growth opportunities! It is a GREAT day to be here and a GREAT day to be alive!

AffirMINTion:  I choose healthy, supportive, and nourishing reactions.

Have a GREAT day, IF you choose to!
