If You’re Going Through Hell… Keep on Going!

Food Journal – No

Good morning Mintdom,

I had a GREAT step day yesterday! I had a hard time keeping up with myself, hence the lack of a Food Journal.  I think I need to start over with the food journal and go back to just writing down on paper what I eat and not worry about points or calories.  Maybe that way, I will get into the habit.  I will try that today along with my 30 minutes of intentional exercise.

“If you’re going through hell, keep going.” –Winston Churchill

While I am not going through hell in any way, shape, or form, (unless you count passing up Christmas treats as hell LOL) I am a bit frustrated with my lack of results.  I like this quote because no matter what, I just need to keep trying.  I need to stick with the basics while looking for new options.  This quote reminded me of a Rodney Atkins song.  Click on the link to listen to it.  I am doing my first 10 minutes to this song.

Warning:  This type of song sticks in your head; you might end up singing it all day!  LOL!!

Attitude, Insurance, Google wave, Lunch, and Oma

Food Journal – Yes

Good morning Mintdom,

Yesterday, I got a call from the financial people who said that I would need to pay an estimated amount of money for my colonoscopy that would go towards my deductible – ug. (Ok, ok Rick you were right about this).  Anyway, the end of that story is that I decided to put off having the screening done because January 1 my deductible starts over.  I have only used $84 this year.  Now wait, before you start sending me e-mails and phone calls, I rescheduled the procedure for January 7!  I just wanted to add to my deductible at the beginning of the year in case I have to have anything else done next year.  I must confess, all this started my mood and my attitude on a downward spiral.  Then we had issues with our technology.  The phone was ringing off the hook and I could feel a headache coming on. I got up from my desk – stretched – took some cleansing breaths – opened a yogurt, and started my day over.  The funny thing is that within minutes, I received a much-coveted invitation to try Google wave, and my parents agreed to come to lunch at my office!

“The greatest discovery of my generation is that man can alter his life simply by altering his attitude of mind.” –William James

I am telling you here, that even though I still have to pay a bunch of money, and the phones were still ringing off the hook,  *I* felt better.  What a difference an attitude makes!

AffirMINTion:  I choose to have a good attitude even during life’s challenges.

Before closing, I just have to say congratulations to my friend and co-worker, Ann Beck – who just had her first grandchild.  ‘Oma and Opa Beck’ drove down to Fort Bragg, yesterday to be with the newest member of their family (and to bring presents!)

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to.

The Mint Diet – Good for Everyone

Posted by The Mint on December 16, 2009

Food Journal – No

Good morning Mintdom,

I realize that I am a little off track these days. I was thinking about that this morning. I think it is because I am not focused enough right now. I am not reading enough or seeking to learn. I know that I am not getting enough intentional exercise in during the day. Between, the holidays, moving offices and setting up technology systems, and keeping up with day-to-day obligations, I am finding myself having difficulties keeping up. It is time to get back to basics. Skipping my exercise is probably the worse thing I can do. Starting today, I am taking 10 minutes of intentional exercise this morning. I started there before and it increases and becomes a habit. I am going to take 10 minutes during my workday to go and walk on the treadmill (no sweating). I am going to finish the day with a 10-minute walk either outside or at the gym. There is my 30 minutes a day. I am excited to start!

“Our mental and emotional diets determine our overall energy levels, health, and well being more than we realize. Every thought and feeling no matter how big or small, impacts our inner energy reserves.” –Doc Childre

I also need to get back to reading and being an intentional student. I probably need to take a class. I have a Toastmaster speech coming up that I need to begin work on. That always stimulates my mind. Do you have ideas on a topic? I think that all this will get me back on track.

AffirMINTion: I am optimistic today. I believe great things are happening!

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to.

Food Journal – Yes

Good morning Mintdom,

I had plans on Saturday to meet friends at the pool, but I woke up sick and so ended up staying in bed most of the day.  I felt better yesterday, and today, I feel good – just a little stuffy.

This week, I am going to finally having that colonoscopy. It is part of taking care of my health.   I know it is no big deal and I am not nervous about it, but I decided it was time to fill out my advance directive (Living Will) that has been sitting on my counter since September.  I do not know exactly why it has taken me so long to fill them out – maybe it is that Terri Shiavo story.  I do not know if you remember her, but she was in a coma for years and her husband and parents fought about when/if to end life.  You can read her story here http://www.terrisfight.org/ . I think that I did not have the words to say in my directive that if one person in my family wanted me wanted to continue life support – they would.  This morning I realized that, that would only place a burden on that one person, and I do not want that, therefore I realized the best thing to do was to just to sign as it as written.  That is the whole point of the Living Will – to take away the burden from my family.  Anyway, I finally signed the – yeah!

The fear of death follows from the fear of life.
A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.

~ Mark Twain ~

I realize that the subject of death is not best way to start your day, but it is a part of life.  It is a part of life that we do not like to talk or even think about, but trust me, the better prepared we are, the less we will have to think about it!  Do you have an Advance Directive?  Good for you if you do and if you do not, seriously give it some consideration.  Read Terri Shiavo’s story if you need a little nudge.  I will tell you that do not fear death; the death part is easy. What I DO fear is HOW I am going to die.  I do not suffer well, and suffering ruins your makeup.  LOL!

AffirMINTion:  I am prepared to live life to the fullest!

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to.

Life is good!

PS  Yesterday, was my sister-in-law, Kathleen’s birthday.  I just have to say that Kathleen is a special person.  Kathleen’s little family have been through a lot over the years when it comes to health.  I have to say how much I admire Kathleen.  She is tenacious about finding solutions and trying them.  She is beautiful, smart, sensitive, and devoted to God and her family.  I hope you had a GREAT day yesterday, Kathleen.  I love you xoxo

Fustrastion is a Good Thing?????

Good morning, Mintdom,

Have you ever had one of those frustrating days when if something could go wrong – it did – especially when it came to technology?  I had one of those days yesterday.  By the end of the day, I just wanted to cry. The good news is that it ended well with an open house at the local realtor association where my sister, Nancy became a board member.

“I’ve come to believe that all my past failure and frustration was actually laying the foundation for the understandings that have created the new level of living I now enjoy.” –Anthony Robbins

I am glad that I found this quote because our technology is still not fixed and this reminds me that this is not a permanent condition and I will enjoy my new level of technology when the technology is up and running smoothly!  Of course, this also holds true in more then technology.  This holds true in every area of our lives.  It is a good lesson for me and I will do my best keep this in mind as I go through my day today.  Today is a new day!

AffirMINTion:  I do not give up on my goals!

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to.

Life is good!

PS   Congratulations to you, Nancy for stepping up to the plate to give back to the industry.  Nancy is a GREAT example of someone who is solution oriented and continues to give back.

Words are Powerful – They Can Hurt or Heal

Posted by The Mint on December 10, 2009

12/09/09 – 5,906 Steps

Food Journal –  Yes

Good morning Mintdom,

One of my goals in 2009 was to start a blog.  If that was not the best goal that I wrote, then I do not know what it would be! I cannot tell you how rewarding it is for me to write this blog – talking about instant gratification, and I mean that in a good way.  If you ever have a big goal or just feeling a little lonely or disconnected, try writing a blog.  Each day that I write, my rewards are the most wonderful feedback, encouragements, guidance, pats on the backs, and love.  Sometimes it is private and sometimes it is public.  There are days that you bring me to tears at the outpouring of love I receive.  There are days when I want to reach through the screen and hug that person that just shared with me something painful or joyous.  Each day I learn something about me and or about you that move me forward (even when I do not want to) and nudge me closer to my goals.  You lift me up when I am down, you celebrate my accomplishments, and you encourage me at all times.  I just wanted to say thank you, thank you, thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

“”People must remind each other that it can be done, and it must be done.  We must keep up each other’s courage.  In that way, we are enormously strong.”-Vincent van Gogh

Words are powerful, they either hurt or heal and they are powerful tools that help us with our goals.  I am beginning to write my goals for 2010 and I can tell you that writing a blog is definitely on the list – the benefits are amazing!

AffirMINTion: Each day I look for ways to encourage others with my words.

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to.

Stress Buster – Do it Now!

Posted by The Mint on December 9, 2009

12/08/09 – 5,784 Steps
Food Journal – Yes

Good morning Mintdom

Last night at Weight Watchers, the topic was stress.  I did not say it in the meeting, but I will tell you one of my biggest stresses is procrastination.  If I have a task to do, especially one that I do not really want to do, it seems like the easier thing to put it off.  That is such an illusion because in reality, the whole time I am putting something off, it is in the back of my mind, sucking the energy and focus right out of me. It causes me more stress then just doing the task, AND stress lays the perfect groundwork to overeating. I guess I am telling you this because tonight I have a newsletter committee meeting for my community, and I have not completed my assignment.  I have had plenty of time, but I just kept putting it off. The meeting is tonight and now I will have to complete it in a hurry or let everyone know that I have not completed it.  Either option stresses me out.

“Putting off an easy thing makes it hard.  Putting off a hard thing makes it impossible.”
~George Claude Lorimer

“Nothing is so fatiguing as the eternal hanging on of an uncompleted task.”  ~William James

“Only put off until tomorrow what you are willing to die having left undone.” ~Pablo Picasso

I am writing these quotes (and yesterday’s quote*) on a 3×5 card and carrying it with me to remind myself to ‘do it now’ and I am doing it now.  LOL!

AffirMINTion: I have a ‘Do It Now’ attitude!

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to

Good morning Mintdom,

This will be short this morning as I slept through my alarms.  That is right, I slept through ALL four of them.  I had a lousy night last night as far as sleeping goes.  That is the bad news; the GOOD news is that I kept my Food Journal.  I will keep it today.  Not only that, but I planned my food for today (pretty much the same as yesterday) Anyway, I feel better today even though I overslept.

Since this is short, I am sending a link to one of my favorite songs for your listening pleasure.  www.tinyurl.com/itsyourclimb2.  And thank you so much for all the encouraging words and love you sent my way yesterday – either in person or here.  I love ALL of you!

AffirMINTion: At the top of the hardest climbs in life are the BEST views!

Congratulations! Today is YOUR Day!

Food Journal – No

Good morning Mintdom,

I expected a low step count for yesterday because I hunkered down at my desk and I had a meeting last night. It also rained all day, so I did not go back and forth to my car.   It is all good, at least I kept track of them.  It is funny…. I do not know how I ever lived without wearing a pedoMINTer.  Maybe I do though, because before the pedoMINTer, I did not really focus on moving like I do today.  It really does help me most days though, because I look frequently and I either say, I am doing well today, or I will tell myself that I need to step it up a bit!

“Congratulations! Today is your day!

You’re off to great places.

You’re off and away.

You have brains in your head.

You have feet in your shoes.

You can steer yourself in any direction you choose.”

-Dr. Suess

Dr. Suess might right for kids, but to me he is one of the wisest people I know! Isn’t it nice to know that we are free to choose our day each day?  How will you choose your day today? Please feel free to share your ideas with all of us on Mintdom.  Visit www.Mintdom.com to add your comments.

AffirMINTion: Today and everyday, I choose to move in a positive direction.

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to.

Entertaining with The Mint

Food Journal – No

Good morning Mintdom,

God sure does work in great ways in my life.  Yesterday afternoon, I made up my mind that I was not going to go to Weight Watchers (WW).  I just could not face that darn scale – UG!  I even tried making plans with my Tuesday dinner friend, but he was busy (God: 1). Then, the phone rang.  It was a woman that is in my Weight Watchers group and she was calling because she needed a ride.  Of course, I could not say no (God: 2). so I picked her up and off we went to WW. Now there is this little coupon in the back of the WW book that says that I can have one week without the scale.  I totally intended on using it.  I even brought it up to the scale opened to that page, but when I got up there, I tossed it to the instructor, and said, “Here, just tell me how much I gained.” (God: 3) How is that for positive thinking LOL?  (Even I slip into negativity on occasion).  I got up on the scale and I LOST 1.8 pounds! (God: Home Run!).  I happen to be a Christian, so I give credit to God (I blame Him too sometimes LOL) who worked through my friend Ben who was too busy for dinner.  He worked through my friend Karen who recommended me as a driver, through my new friend Linda, who needed the ride, and for the instructors at Weight Watchers who create a safe and fun environment that enabled me to get on that scale one more time.  For those of you who are not Christians, you do not have to be a Christian to know the power of positive thinking.

“There will always be times when you feel discouraged.  I too, have felt despair many times in my life, but – I do not keep a chair for it; I will not entertain it; and it is not allowed to eat from my plate.” –Claris Pinkola Estes

I need to remember this quote when the negative thoughts come into my mind.  What do you do to keep negative thoughts at bay?  I would love to hear your answers here or on Mintdom www.Mintdom.com

AffirMINTion: I ONLY entertain empowering thoughts and emotions at my table!

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to.
