New Growth!

Good morning, Mintdom

spring 2013I have lived in my house for over four years now. Each spring I regret that I had not planted bulbs the fall before. I think, if only I planted bulbs last fall, I could be picking daffodils. Finally, last fall, I went to the store, bought bulbs and a bulb planter and planted 17 daffodil bulbs. The other day, I was getting into my car for work, I looked down, and I saw the most beautiful sight. I saw the beginnings of my little daffodils coming up! I cannot tell you how happy I was to see the new growth.

“Strength and growth come only through continuous effort and struggle.” – Napoleon Hill

I would not say that planting bulbs was really struggle; however, I see that the growth usually comes at a price before you reap the rewards. It cost time to plan the little garden. It cost to buy the bulbs. It cost physical labor to plant and water the bulbs. None of those costs is very high and not only that, but daffodils multiply and therefore the rewards will increase each year.

The new growth inspires me and teaches me a lesson. Growth comes with a price and the rewards are GREAT!

How does your garden grow?

AffirMINTion: I love to learn and there are lessons all around me.

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to.

What are you waiting for?

Minty Responses!

Good morning Mintdom!

This morning is the first morning that my knee is not crunching, and my back is better too. Yeah!  I will get back to my morning walks on Wednesday (tomorrow never comes ha, ha) I have actually missed them.  There is something about a morning walk, especially outside, that clears my head. I think it has to do with being out in nature.  Now, those of you who know me well are probably shaking your head and laughing, since I am not an outdoorsy kind of person.  Well, I am still a careful walker after the rain so I do not step on any worms.  That can actually be tricky when there are a lot of them. Anyway, I am anxious to get my steps back up although; it sure is nice to get up at 6:00 in the morning rather then 5 or 5:30.  It just does not seem civilized to get up before 6:00.

“Between whatever happens to me and my response to it is a space.  In that, space is my freedom and power to choose my response.  And in my response lies my growth and happiness.” –Stephen Covey

So it has been about a week since I did any intentional walking, and although I am anxious to get back to it, I really was ok with sitting out a week in order to let things heal. When I read this quote, I got a clear picture in my mind why that was.  I love it when I get a picture like that!  The knee problem is minor and it was not difficult to respond as I did; however, there are times when something happens that REALLY throws me for a loop, a clear picture gives me the freedom AND the power to choose how I am going to deal with it.  No matter what comes across my path – I can visualize that space, and decide my response.  I might be in a situation that I cannot control, but I DO have the power to control my response.  That is a HUGE freedom!

Today, notice those ‘spaces’.  Think about how you choose to respond.  Does noticing the ‘space’ change how you deal with situations?  I would love to hear your success stories!  Please feel free to share here

AffirMINTion:  I choose my response to outside events.

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to

Give Yourself a Bow!

Good morning!

There was no excitement (like foxes) on my walk this morning, just an exciting realization!  I AM a one-of-a-kind person with unique abilities. There is no one exactly like me in the world!  It is freeing to know that not only am I a unique person; so are you, and not only is it impossible to be you… I do not have to strive to be you. When I was a kid, I had such a strong belief in myself.  So strong, that when I was around 3 years old, I went to the movies with my Aunt.  There was a part in the movie that made the people in the theater applaud. My belief in myself was so strong that I stood up in my chair and bowed!

I really want to get back to that little girl. I know that I have tried and failed, many times to get in shape, and my self-belief waivers.  This walking goal is very good for me in more then making the 10,000 steps and improving my health, which are very important.  This walking goal and reporting my progress is really helping me get back to the little girl who stood up in her chair and bowed.  I am so happy to share this journey with you.

“Nothing splendid has ever been achieved except by those who dared believe that something inside of them was superior to circumstances.”

Bruce Barton, American congressman (1886-1967)

Today, think about a time in your life when you felt so good about yourself that you would have stood up in a movie theater and bowed during applause.  Feel free to post your thoughts here.  I can tell you from experience that it is really affirming to see good things about yourself on paper or the Internet.  LOL!

AffirMINTion: I am a wonderful person filled with one-of-a-kind value, worth, and love

Here is a little exercise:  Get out a note card or a piece of paper.  Close your eyes.  Who is the first person that comes to your mind?  Write that person (even if it is you) a note that starts – When I think of (fill in the name), I think of… sign it, address the envelope, put a stamp on it, and mail it today, or Thursday (tomorrow never comes).

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to.

The Mint and the Fox

Posted by The Mint on July 21, 2009

All this walking and getting in shape is sure bringing a lot of growth opportunities and challenges.  One of my challenges is that I am having pedometer issues.  I am in the habit of putting on my pedometer every day, but lately, when I sit – the dang thing resets itself. I tried reading it before I sit down in case it resets, and I add the numbers up at the end of the day.  I have tried wearing two pedometers and comparing (of course I always go with the higher number LOL).  Yesterday, I forgot to look and at noon, the pedometer read 113 steps.  Now, I know that I did not walk yesterday morning but I can stay home and walk more then that! I came up with a new solution.  Each time I sit down, I take the pedometer off and put it on my desk.  That DID work for most of the day; however, at the end of the day, I left it there. I am looking for a solution. I am getting a little frustrated so if any of you fitness buffs have suggestions, please post them here.

Jeepers!  Getting into shape can be hazardous to your health.  This morning I was walking in my neighborhood (I have two miles in already, yeah!) and at the end of the street that I was walking on, I saw something move.  Was it a cat?  Was it a dog?  Was it superman?  No, it was a fox!  I stopped in my tracks.  The fox stopped too, and we looked at each other.  Are foxes like dogs; they might attack if you show fear? I made the decision to turn around and walk the other way.  I turned around to make sure the fox was not following me and it had turned around and walked the other direction too!  Maybe it was just as nervous as I was, though I doubt it! LOL!  I suppose I need to start carrying something bigger then a cell phone and an mp3 player!

Ok, those are my current challenges.  I am sure I will work them out.

As Charles Swindoll says, “I am convinced that life is 10 percent what happens to you, and ninety percent how I react to it.” “And so it is with you…we are in charge of our own attitudes.”

My journey into health is good, with lots of challenges and growth opportunities! It is a GREAT day to be here and a GREAT day to be alive!

AffirMINTion:  I choose healthy, supportive, and nourishing reactions.

Have a GREAT day, IF you choose to!
