Good morning Mintdom,

I am living in a little frozen Mint world today.  Yesterday, we got about 5 or 6 inches of snow.  I worked from home most of the day, and today, I will do the same.  It was actually good for me as I got a lot accomplished, and I am looking forward to getting a lot more work done today. The only distraction I had was Minty.  The snow is good for Minty too as she loves playing and eating it; we are both happy!

I have been thinking about happiness lately and I have a couple of questions for you:

Do you consider yourself happy?

Do you think that happiness is genetic?

My mom says that she thinks that I was born happy. I rather think that it is a choice.  I search on Google for the answer and found several articles (just a few are listed below for your reading pleasure) on this topic.  Before I give you my opinion on this topic, I would love to hear what you think about the topic, and the two questions. Please feel free to share your thoughts here .  I am sure that you will have many interesting things to say.

A Hard Habit to Make!

Most people know that water is required for many of the body’s physiological processes, and decreased water intake is associated with health problems. Left to my own devices, I will not drink water for days. Actually, I am not a big drinker of anything, and water is my least favorite. I am also not a sipper. When I am at work, I do not sip anything; in fact, my coffee often gets cold because I forget about it. Since I am on this quest for better health, I know it is important to drink 8 glasses of water per day. I have heard and read ways to get more water in, but this is the simplest and it is working for me.

Remove other forms of liquid from your diet or instead of having other drinks, just “Stop it!” (See January 2 blog)

Now I drink water with my meals and snacks; I hardly know that I am drinking water. If I eat something spicy, I might drink two or three at a meal, which could mean up to six glasses a day just with meals! I also drink a full glass, first thing in the morning.

One more trick is to heat a cup of water and steep fresh ginger in it. It counts as water and it is such a nice thing to do before bed!

Solution as Easy as 1-2-3!?!

Good morning, Mintdom!
One of the things that I keep reading about is not to cling to old ways.  Here are a few of my old ways that I am letting go.
Isolating when I am not feeling good about myself or have gotten off track (This is my biggest one) Solution #1: Stay present, involved, ask for help (shudder), and continue writing and posting Mintdom.
Take Flight when I have the Fight or Flight choice – I flee. When I get off course, I keep going. If I do not like the results of something that I am doing – I quit.  This is part of another old way – Perfectionism.  Now perfectionism is something that I never thought I had because I never did anything perfect. Solution #2: Stay present, stay put, forge ahead, put up my dukes, and be ok with my imperfections.
Rationalization: An example of this is how I am stuck on the idea that I do not like to drink water.  I even moved my goal down to 4 glasses per day with the rationalization that I was starting slow.  hmpf! I also find articles that tell me that drinking all that water is not necessary to back me up! The other thing I tend to do is say to myself things like, “I will have this one __________ (fill in the blank) and then tomorrow, I will do better.” Solution #3: Stick to my commitMINTs if I run into trouble, see solution #1 and 2.
I can tell you that the solutions are not as easy as 1-2-3 for me.  Most things that I let go of have long claw marks on them! LOL Can you relate to any of these?
