The Pool is Open – Goals – Seed Planting

05/30/2011 – Memorial Day
Good morning, Mintdom,
I just love that the outdoor pool is open!  It is not big enough for swimming; however, it is GREAT for treading water, and socializing.  I like to go swimming in the indoor pool and dry off outside.  It will be easy to go swimming after work now – yeah!
One of the reasons why I need to get stronger is that I am going to a conference in San Diego in August.  I really need to be stronger for that and the pool will help me prepare for a lot of walking at a large convention center. One of my favorite authors, Jon Gordon is going to speak.  He is author of several books, including The Energy Bus, The No Complaint Rule, and his latest, The Seed.  I am including a link to Jon’s latest book, The Seed. I strongly recommend it. I am so excited about seeing him! In addition, Dave Ramsey is speaking – maintain a working budget is also one of my struggles.  I hope to get some insight as to how to overcome some of my obstacles to keep that in order.
My top five summer goals are the following:
1. Work up to swimming 5 days a week
2. Work up to walking 3 days a week
3. Eat fresh, whole foods
4. Maintain my budget
5. Have fun with family and friends!
I actually did not have to list number 5; that is easy for me to do.  Minty and I LOVE to spend time with family and friends.  It is good though, because that is something that I KNOW I can check off easily, and checking off things on a list feels so good!  On a side note – I usually bring a list to the grocery store, and if I ‘forget’ to put something on the list before the store, I add it IN the store so I can check it off!  Unfortunately, it is something that I probably do not need to buy! LOL
Do you have summer goals that you would like to share?  What is your top goal? I would love to hear your answers.

More Chances to Get it Right!

05/23/10 – 4,414 Steps

5/24/10 – 4,159 Steps
1-hour exercise

It has been a few days since I have written, and my step count is low, but I HAVE been drinking my water!  It just seems that I cannot do it all!  Yesterday I joined a water aerobics class so I did get my exercise in, but cannot wear pedoMINTer in the pool or the watch I wear that monitors my exercise!

In addition, I have been cutting back on my TV watching.  I have been going to bed earlier, although it has not helped me get up earlier, and reading.  I am one of those multiple book readers.  If you have not read books by Jon Gordon, (The Energy Addict, The Energy Bus are a couple) I strongly suggest his books.  If you are not a big reader, they are especially good as they are very easy to read.  I also picked up Teaching a Pig to Dance – A Memoir of Growing Up and Second Chances by Fred Thompson.  I normally only read business or self help type books, but the title of the book intrigued me.  I am enjoying his wit and wisdom and of course I love the idea of second chances.  I am getting at least a second chance at getting healthy – second, third, forth…. LOL   Here are a couple of quotes from him.

“Teaching Latin to someone like me in high school was somewhat like trying to teach a pig to dance. It’s a waste of the teacher’s time and it irritates the pig.” –Fred Thompson

“Minor surgery is surgery that someone else is having.” –Fred Thompson

I think you get the flavor. Anyway, today, my go.al is to step up my step count, work hard, eat well, enjoy some time with friends, and of course, read and rest.

“No matter how busy you may think you are, you must find time for reading, or surrender yourself to self-chosen ignorance.” – Confucius
