A Celebration of Life!

 April 27, 2013

Good morning, Mintdom,

On Friday, I attended a celebration of life for a wonderful woman whose life ended too soon. I met Berty only once; however, I knew of her through her son and my daughter. She was a beautiful woman who lived her life to the fullest. The world lost some of its grace when she left.

With the huge room filled to capacity, it is obvious that many people loved Berty; it showed in her friends that were able to speak at her life-celebration. Although her family and friends will always miss her, my prayer is that the many fond memories will ease the pain of losing her.

My prayer for all of us is that we do not put off that phone call, lunch or note to our loved ones and that we let our friends and family know how much we love them through our words and deeds each day.

AffirMINTion: I express my love to my family and friends each day.

This is Berty and Al with a blanket that she received during one of the times that she was in the hospital. I love the embellishment. It looks like Berty – bright, cheery, warm embellished and happy!

The Minty Fresh Side of the Street

April 17, 2013

Good morning, Mintdom

There have been times and there will be times when I have conflict with someone. I know it is hard to believe of me! LOL Like many of you, I do not like conflict and I will avoid it as much as I can. You can dress it up by calling it CAREfrontation or something else; however, it is still uncomfortable for me. There is one thing that I have learned in my 50 is the new 60 years of life that has served me well and that is, it does not matter what the other person does. It DOES matter what I do. They can do the wrong things, be dishonest, and even say negative things about me to others; it does not matter. What DOES matter is that I do the right thing. What DOES matter is that I am honest. What DOES matter is that I keep MY side of the street clean. MY side of the street is sunny and MINTY FRESH!  In the past, I would think of ways to get the person who ‘wronged’ me back. Even remembering the energy and wasted time makes me feel tense and brooding. Now, no matter how the other person behaves, I focus on dong the next right thing and keeping MY side of the street clean. I sleep so much better at night!

Lest you think I am a doormat – I am not. Keeping my side of the street clean does not mean that if someone wrongs me, I cannot take action if necessary. I will just take the correct action. How do you deal with conflict? Are you able to keep your side of the street clean?

I hope this song can serve as a little reminder how nice it is to stay on the sunny (Minty Fresh) side of the street http://youtu.be/LEsgLzgH_po

AffirMINTion: I focus on keeping MY side of the street clean.

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to.

What are you waiting for?

Life is good!

Hello Mintdom :)

April 5, 2013

Good morning, Mintdom

I do not normally play April Fools tricks; however, this year I decided to try it and honestly, I almost think that the joke was on me, as many of my awesome readers thought that I was serious because did not scroll down to the bottom of the post to see this:

The joke might be on me because I might have lost some of my readers. The good news is that I found out very early in the day how much Mintdom meant to many of you and even more so, I felt the love of many of my friends and family members. I am grateful to say the least. It is truly a gift to know feel that love – thank you sincerely.

On a sadder note, a little over a week ago, the world lost a wonderful, larger than life person, much too soon and way too young. This evening and tomorrow, his family and friends will gather to celebrate his life and mourn his death at age 64. We will certainly miss your ready smile and hearty laugh, Captain.

Our Best Asset!

March 25, 2013

Good morning, Mintdom

I have missed you! I have not written and this will be short because I have been sick for the past 10 days with a good case of bronchitis. Today is my first day back at work and I am so excited! One of the most important things that I learned is that my health (and your health too) is the best asset. Sometimes, I take it for granted but I think it will be a while before I do that again. March is normally when I make my annual trip to the doctor and before I was sick, I was thinking of putting it off. I do not like going to the doctor; however, if I want to avoid going, I need to go for my annual physical and follow the directions she gives me. I do not want to lose my BEST asset?

“The only way to keep your health is to eat what you don’t want, drink what you don’t like, and do what you’d rather not.” – Mark Twain

Are you taking care of your BEST asset or are you taking it for granted?

AffirMINTion: I take care of my BEST asset.

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to.

What are you waiting for?

The Year of Fabulosity!

March 4, 2013

Good morning Mintdom!

Please indulge me for a few minutes this morning. I am bursting at the seams. I had a milestone birthday on Friday. I turned 60 years old – err 60 years young that is. I had a fabulous weekend of celebrating with family and friends. I have so many blessings and so much love in my life. It started with my sister, Nancy (well, it actually started in Fort Campbell, KY with my dad and mom) and ended with Nancy and my kids, grandchildren and my brother and his family at my favorite restaurant. I had awesome Facebook messages. I read them all and I am still working on thanking you all for them. I had phone calls, e-mails, visits, outings, hugs and a ton of love.  I have to be one of the wealthiest people on this earth. Thank you so much, I am grateful for each one of you.

I have never minded birthdays in the past. This year was the exception. I was not in the best frame of mind during the weeks leading up to my birthday. I was a little grumbly about turning that number; however, I now believe that this is the year of Fabulosity! I am SO looking forward to all of the fabulous opportunities (and discounts LOL) that I will have this year. This is just my first 60 years and I am looking forward to my next 60 years!

Here are a few of the remnants of my fabulous birthday weekend! Thanks for indulging me. I will get back to my fabulous regular life now (Nancy).

New Growth!

February 20, 2013

Good morning, Mintdom

spring 2013I have lived in my house for over four years now. Each spring I regret that I had not planted bulbs the fall before. I think, if only I planted bulbs last fall, I could be picking daffodils. Finally, last fall, I went to the store, bought bulbs and a bulb planter and planted 17 daffodil bulbs. The other day, I was getting into my car for work, I looked down, and I saw the most beautiful sight. I saw the beginnings of my little daffodils coming up! I cannot tell you how happy I was to see the new growth.

“Strength and growth come only through continuous effort and struggle.” – Napoleon Hill

I would not say that planting bulbs was really struggle; however, I see that the growth usually comes at a price before you reap the rewards. It cost time to plan the little garden. It cost to buy the bulbs. It cost physical labor to plant and water the bulbs. None of those costs is very high and not only that, but daffodils multiply and therefore the rewards will increase each year.

The new growth inspires me and teaches me a lesson. Growth comes with a price and the rewards are GREAT!

How does your garden grow?

AffirMINTion: I love to learn and there are lessons all around me.

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to.

Appreciate Life, Love and MoMINTS

February 11, 2013

Good morning Mintdom!

Last night I received an e-mail about an amazing man. His name is Ben Witter billed as the Tiger Woods of Trick Shots! His trick shots are incredible; however, the best thing about him is that he is inspiring! You can judge for yourself though. Click on this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZCtbRDlwzU to be inspired! Ben Witter sure knows how to make lemonade out of lemons.

On a personal note and sort of on the same subject, I have a friend whose husband is dealing with a serious cancer. Their attitude astounds me. Although I imagine that, my friend has had her moMINTS; she comes to the office and is cheerful and upbeat yet does not avoid the subject. I admire her so much and this is a good reminder for me to cherish my loved ones and life in general.

I am so grateful to all of you that read my posts. I know some of you very well and some not as well as I would like. I DO appreciate you and value ALL of your responses. To my family and friends: I love you more than I can put into words. Thank you for all of your love.

Today, make sure you tell someone how much you love and value him or her

AffirMINTion: I let my loved ones know how much I love them.

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to.

Just Because ‘It’ Rings….

February 1, 2013

Good morning Mintdom!

Last night, I spent the evening with my parents and a good friend of mine. It was such a nice evening with GREAT food and conversation. My sister was guest bar-tending there to raise money for a good cause and several friends attended. The one thing that stood out was that I did not see one person in the group pick up their cell phone. Now, many important business people attended and it might surprise you that no one used their cell phones. The event and my sister raised a nice amount of money; there was much laughter heard and phones ignored. Do you remember life before the cell phone? We actually survived without them and sometimes I think we were better off without them.

“One of the greatest gifts you can give to anyone is the gift of attention.” – Jim Rohn

When was the last time you attended an event or just a dinner where you gave your exclusive attention to someone? Do remember the last time someone gave you their undivided attention?

AffirMINTion: I give the gift of my attention to others.

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to.

Hey – Watch Your Language!

January 28, 2013

Good morning, Mintdom,

Words are powerful – they can either hurt or heal (yourself or others). Here is a challenge for you, IF you CHOOSE to accept it. Today, listen to the words you choose during the day and take note of it. This evening, look back at your notes. How did your words, your language affect you, your day or others? Will you do something different tomorrow?

Here are just a few things to watch out for –

Swearing is a Bad Habit: My dad always told me that when you use bad language, it makes you appear less intelligent because it looks like you are unable to pull a better word out of your vocabulary.

“Must swear off from swearing. Bad habit.” – Rutherford B Hayes

Watch Your Words: Words can change your reality if you say you can do something – many times, it happens. If you say you cannot to do something, you probably cannot.

If someone in our office is overheard speaking badly about themselves, someone shouts (softly) BOING, BOING; it is a reminder to speak kindly of ourselves. When we started this years ago, you would hear, BOING, BOING a lot. You rarely hear it these days. We are out of the habit.

“If you think you can do a thing or you think you can’t do a thing, you’re right.” – Henry Ford

Keep Your Word: If you say you will do something – than do it; however, be careful what you promise.

“One lie has the power to tarnish a thousand truths.” – Al David

AffirMINTion: I like to keep my language soft and sweet.

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to.

What are you waiting for?

Our Focus

January 25, 2013

Good morning Mintdom!

Every day the media spews the bad news, the catastrophes, murders, mayhem and political infighting. If our focus is on the media, we may begin to think that, that is the world. Instead of focusing on the news, I choose to focus and immerse myself in uplifting music, inspiring books, positive friends and just take in a pinch of news – enough so that I know what is happening in the world.

I love this story

A Cherokee Legend

An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life. “A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy.

“It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.” He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?”

The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”

Which wolf will you feed today?

AffirMINTion: I chose to focus on the good in life.

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to.

What are you waiting for?
