Facing Everyday Fears

Good morning Mintdom,

One of the positions that I am keeping is Chairperson of the Communications Committee for the community where I live.  I have not headed up a committee like this before with people that I do not know (YET). I want to do a good job – no, I want to do a GREAT job.  LOL I comMINTed to this before I began streamlining my life, and if it came up now, I would not have volunteered; however, since I already made the comMINTment, I will stay for one year.  One of the tasks that we are responsible for, is to begin a newsletter.  Last night we had our second newsletter meeting. You would be very proud of me because the first thing that I asked the group was whom did we decide was the chair?  They all looked at me and I said that it was not me.  This is a GREAT committee because within a minute, we chose the perfect person to chair the sub-committee, and that person was not me!  My job is to write a health column and collect sponsors; I love both of those jobs!  Ultimately, as chair of the committee, it is my responsibility to make sure that the sub-committees get the work done – that is heavy for me.

You are probably wondering why I am sharing all this with you.  First, it is one of the reasons that I was unable to get my exercise in yesterday.  The second reason is that I am following through on streamlining my life, BUT the main reason however, is that I want to be transparent as I can be and let you know that I have fears and insecurities about some of the things that I do.  This is all out of my comfort zone. It is easy to head up or be a part of small committees where I know everyone and people like me already. As chair of this committee, I have to answer to the BOD and in front of the WHOLE community – yikes!  I do not mind telling you that I am that this is a huge challenge for me, but if *I* can face my fear and take on this challenge – you can take on your own!

Good morning Mintdom!

I really had a GREAT weekend.  Every weekend is good when I get good rest, meet new friends, discover a new recipe, go to a party and get some decent steps in at least on one day. Yep – I had a nice weekend! Today is Monday and I LOVE Mondays!  It is the fresh start of the week.  Funny, whenever I hear myself talk about Mondays, I hear that song by the Mamas and Pappas go through my head.  I could not remember past Monday, Monday so I looked it up on YouTube to listen to it.  I thought I would listen to it while I wrote this morning, BUT it actually turns out to be not such a fun song.  There is a lesson it though. Each day is a new day, and we are not guaranteed that it will turn out the way we plan or that we will even see the next day. Therefore, the lesson for me is that I need to make the most out of each moment I am here, and to appreciate all the people and good in my life.

I cannot let this post go by without giving a shout out to my sister, Nancy who is celebrating her birthday today. When I think of Nancy, I think of inspiration.  Nancy is my inspiration for my journey of self-growth.  That is just the first thing I think of when I think about Nancy.  Happy Birthday, Nancy – may your day be filled with love and laughter (I know it will because she is in Buffini land!) LOL!

Doing the Mint Push!

Good morning

Yesterday was good for steps!  I hope today is even better.  I am trying to push my boundaries a little bit.  Instead of driving to the club, I am walking; although, today was a tenuous as there were rain clouds moving towards me.  I thought about it for a minute, decided that I could keep my cell phone dry, and that as sweet as I am, I would not melt, and headed out.  Not only did I walk up to the club instead of driving, I actually went the long way up and the long way home!  Honestly, I am not bragging, I just want to relay to you how good it feels when I push out of my comfort zone and if *I* can walk the long way to the club, (push myself) you can too!  I am telling you; it was not too long ago (like a couple of months) that I had a difficult time walking around my block!  I saw people walking around (not even in tennis shoes) my neighborhood, and envied them.  Now I am beginning to do the same thing!

What boundaries are between you and YOUR dreams?  I KNOW that you have the strength and stamina to push those boundaries a little today.  You do not have to knock them down with a bulldozer.  Just gently push them each day.  When I started, my average steps each day was 4,369.  That was a little over a month ago; today it is higher.
