Good morning Mintdom

Do I ever love my pedometer! I have only had a few days that are below 5,000 steps and I believe I have never had over 10,000 steps in 2 weeks since I started counting.  I need to double that in the next 2 weeks.  I am actually excited about it. If you do not have a pedometer, I suggest that you get one – it really makes a difference!

 The Surgeon General recommends that we walk 10,000 steps a day for our health. Does that seem like a difficult goal to reach? What are you doing for your health today?

Wow! A New Biological Discovery

Good morning, Mintdom

First, I cannot believe that it is not only the year, 2013, but also it is MAY 2013! Life is flying by – phew! Now that I have that out of the way, I believe I discovered a new biological discovery. I think my feet and my brain are connected.  The way I made the connection is that ever since I got my new pedoMINTer, I am much more aware of my moveMINTs for the day, but somehow looking down at the pedoMINTer and seeing how many steps, I am up to really kicks my brain into gear. I have to wait until the end of the day to check to see if I have met my goal with the Active Link. Both are GREAT in their own way; however, if I have not gotten my steps up to over 5,000 before I get home from work, I know that I have work to do.

I wore the pedoMINTer for two days and both days were up over 5,000. My goal is to have at least 10,000 steps a day consistently BEFORE the end of the summer. That is a doable goal. Who knows, maybe someone will do a study on the link between one’s brain and one’s feet and I can take credit for the discovery. LOL

Have you discovered something new about yourself lately? Do you have any new health goals for the summer? All I can say is that we need to hurry with our goals because time is flying by!

Good morning, Mintdom!

I am back to wearing my pedometer every day – Whoohoo!  It really DOES make me more conscious of my movements. There is another person in my office that wears one and we have compared our steps before. Hmmm, I feel my competitive nature bubbling up.

 

 

Minty idea – I wonder who might be interested in a little competition to see who walks the most steps in a month. If any of you (Lisa) are interested, let me know.

 

I love Minty’s quote today. It takes being conscious of your life to really live! I believe that Howard Thurman was referring to people who are living life to the fullest, not just live bodies. If I want to make the world a better place, I need to know what I am passionate about and set my goals accordingly.

Being aware of the things that motivate me is an essential tool in helping me achieve my goals and making the most out of my life. What are some of the tools that you use to achieve your goals?

Good morning, Mintdom!

Do you ever say to yourself things like, “When this happens, I will start” or As soon as I have this (fill in the blank), I will do that”? I had breakfast with my friend and author of  The Path to the Springs (available on Amazon.com), Deb Saunders last week. We had a GREAT discussion on just this question. I know that there are times that I am guilty of this kind of attitude; it does not serve me well. I love Deb’s attitude that we need to start where we are right now. Nike sums it up with its “Just Do It” slogan.

Since that breakfast, I am more aware than ever when I am “putting things off until tomorrow” attitude because tomorrow never comes.

Good morning, Mintdom!
 
Whoo hoo! I have a new pedoMINTer.  My little box is filling up with ex-pedoMINTers – it is difficult to find just the right one because I am fussy.  This one actually speaks to me so I do not have to keep looking; it also reminds me to be conscience of my steps and it keeps me motivated.  Anyway, I am happy to have one again – gotta love counting steps!

Right now, staying motivated is my biggest challenge.  Motivation is like keeping a campfire going; it needs tending to constantly or it goes out.  That is what happened to me – my fire went out and I lost my motivation. Having a pedoMINTer is the spark that ignites my fire; wearing it every day and writing Mintdom stokes my fire. The other thing that helps tend my fire is the support I receive from all of you, either in your notes to me with little nudges, or ones in person!  I SO appreciate each of you!

What are some of the things that keep you motivated?  I would love to hear your ideas!

Making Right Choices Today!

Good morning, Mintdom!

I am a little behind the times, I know. I have been out of focus for a few days AND I lost my pedometer. I know it seems silly, but that pedometer seems to kick-start my day. I will get another one today after work. Jeepers!

The (sort of) behind the strength training above is because I did not complete the last exercise. I have been doing this exercise lying on a ball, and the last time I did it, Minty jumped on my chest and would not let me continue! LOL Last night I did it standing up. I know there are always solutions and no excuse for not doing them; it is simply my choice. I am now choosing to focus again.

Today is a fresh new day, and I am excited to exercise, drink lots of water, eat healthy, track it all, and most of all, stay positive!

Another Step Towards Health – That’s Gilly!

Good Morning, Mintdom!
 
I am so happy to get a pedoMINTer back.  I actually bought one before the holidays, but it was defective so I sent it back.  The company just sent me a new one. My committMINT is going to be at least 4,000 steps a day this week. Next week I will up it to 5,000, and I will go from there. Seems like a pretty big step back when I was doing 7 – 8,000 steps before my pedoMINTer broke; however, when I started with a pedoMINTer, I was barely doing 2,000 steps a day – that is progress!

Good morning Mintdom,

I FINALLY found my pedometer – yikes! I do not like going without it; it is as if every step is wasted!  Lo Anyway, I have it back and I really NEED to get up to Weight Watchers and get a spare. 

Many of you have heard that I am a member of Spark People.  It is a GREAT site for learning how to live a healthy balanced life.  Yesterday, I signed up for a summer camp in one of my groups.  I think it is going to be similar to the TV show ‘The Amazing Race’.  There are challenges every day.  One of the challenges I accepted is to be out of bed BEFORE 6:00 am during the week.  I used to do that every day, but lately, I have slacked off.  I am trying to go for the longest streak of doing that, that I can. I will be putting this up every day.  I also need to track a nutrient each day, but I have not decided what I want to track yet.  I will let you know.  That did not sound too difficult for me. Well the kicker is, I members are given a partner to compete with other teams – Yikes!  I needed something new and here it is; it is a little scary, but I am up for the challenge.  If you are interested in getting involved visit www.SparkPeople.com and you can enter your OWN Amazing Race!

Never Too _____________ to Get Healthy!

Good morning Mintdom,

Although my pedometer had an issue yesterday, I doubt that I hit 6,000 steps because I worked at my desk for a lot of the day. Today should be much better as I walked this morning and already have over 3,300 steps in.  I need to get that up to at least 4,000 (2 miles) in the morning when I walk.  OK… that is the next goal!

Not long ago I wrote that there was no magic pill.  I received a great response from Bobbe who is a friend of my mom who reads Mintdom along with a poem that she wrote.  She and my mom have started going to the gym a few days a week.  I am so proud of both of them!  Bobbe is probably between my mom’s age, and my age; both of them look younger then their age, and now, I know that they will FEEL younger and stronger then their age. You go girls!
Here is the poem; it would be a great piece to post on the fridge or at my desk. It is nice instruction and a reminder that it is never too late to eat healthy, exercise and to have fun (giggle) while you are doing it!  Thank you Bobbe for the great poem and for permission to post it

As one gets older, I can see that old man time is a burden on me.

He holds his hand on the clock so round, and makes my butt so big and profound.

Oh, father time, you nasty thing, just get away from me, I plea.

My hormones are less, I guess, my face wrinkled, my arms wriggle, but I still can sit, drink coffee and giggle.

I drink the water and walk on the treadmill, and know there is no magic pill.

The Secret to Winning Is….

Good morning Mintdom!

I am feeling like I put together three successful days in a row.  I probably did well over the 531 steps at the pool so I am counting it a successful day!  I can tell you that my legs have been sore from Monday and this morning it is my legs AND my arms.  I tried to push myself as much as I could.  Next Wednesday I am joining a Yoga water class so that will give me at least three hours of classes a week.  I have to tell you that I do much better when I set myself up with accountability, and classes do that for me.

This quote is true whether we are talking about winning at sports or, in this case, our health.  Taking a class or hiring a trainer or just having an accountability partner helps me to stay consistent.  What do you do to stay on track with your goals?
