I’m a Tracker – Are You a Tracker Too?

February 10, 2014

02/09/2014
H2O Challenge: Drink 8 glasses of water per day ( 8)
Exercise Challenge: Do at least 10 minutes of exercise per day (20  minutes)
Step Challenge: Walk 7,000 steps per day (7,376 )
February Challenge: Walk 50k steps (31 miles)this month and I have done (52.40 miles so far) or 52,064  steps so far this month

Good morning!

If you are ever struggling with hitting a goal, I have found out that tracking is the key to breaking through. For the past 112 days, I have tracked my exercise, my water intake and my steps, including miles. I can see that I am gaining moMINTum. In one of the programs that I use, (www.SparkPeople.com) I get little trophies and badges for doing my activities. I received a silver medal for going over 40,000 steps in a week! I started out getting nothing, then I received a couple of bronze medals and now I am going for the gold which is 60,000 steps in a week. I will have to sneak in a couple of 10,000 steps to reach that goal!

Since I got my FitBit, I have tracked not only my steps, I have tracked my sleep too! I can see why I am so tired some days! I can also see some of my friend’s steps on the FitBit site. I can tell you that I feel REALLY good when/if I pass one of them and I am challenged to reach others; although, one of my friends does like 21,000 steps a day.  Hey – you never know! 🙂

The last frontier in my personal life of tracking is going to be my food. I have not done very well at that yet. I track breakfast and then I do not track for the rest of the day. Tracking at work is another thing and I need to bump it up there too!

Do you track, and if yes, what do you track and what tools do you use?  If you do not track, why don’t you?

AffirMINTion: I am a tracker!

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to.

Good morning Mintdom

Do I ever love my pedometer! I have only had a few days that are below 5,000 steps and I believe I have never had over 10,000 steps in 2 weeks since I started counting.  I need to double that in the next 2 weeks.  I am actually excited about it. If you do not have a pedometer, I suggest that you get one – it really makes a difference!

Wow! A New Biological Discovery

May 6, 2013

5/4/13 – 5,423 Steps

5/5/13 – 6,511 Steps

Good morning, Mintdom

First, I cannot believe that it is not only the year, 2013, but also it is MAY 2013! Life is flying by – phew! Now that I have that out of the way, I believe I discovered a new biological discovery. I think my feet and my brain are connected.  The way I made the connection is that ever since I got my new pedoMINTer, I am much more aware of my moveMINTs for the day, but somehow looking down at the pedoMINTer and seeing how many steps, I am up to really kicks my brain into gear. I have to wait until the end of the day to check to see if I have met my goal with the Active Link. Both are GREAT in their own way; however, if I have not gotten my steps up to over 5,000 before I get home from work, I know that I have work to do.

I wore the pedoMINTer for two days and both days were up over 5,000. My goal is to have at least 10,000 steps a day consistently BEFORE the end of the summer. That is a doable goal. Who knows, maybe someone will do a study on the link between one’s brain and one’s feet and I can take credit for the discovery. LOL

Have you discovered something new about yourself lately? Do you have any new health goals for the summer? All I can say is that we need to hurry with our goals because time is flying by!

AffirMINTion: I move more each day!

Good morning, Mintdom!

Tomorrow, my youngest brother, Jeff, will turn 50 years old. It is so hard to believe. I remember when he came home from the hospital, shaking head, and that was 50 years ago – I barely feel like *I* am 50 much less having a ‘little’ brother who is 50.  Last night our family and close friends celebrated Jeff. He is an amazing young … ooopps I cannot say that anymore. LOL Seriously, Jeff is a miracle. While he was in high school, had a serious medical issue that left him legally blind (he sees a quarter out of each eye and only in black and white) along with other challenges. These challenges have not stopped my brother from doing what he wants to do in life. It did not stop him from graduating from high school or the University of Santa Barbara. It has not stopped him from getting married and being a GREAT father to his children. He is unable to drive a car; however, it has not stopped him in business or from traveling all over the world, even in places like India and Russia where it might be difficult for lots of us! Best of all, I have yet to hear my brother complain or feel sorry for himself.

Last week, I read a blog from a young woman who had a diving accident that left her paralyzed from the neck down.  Of course, you cannot compare the injuries; however, as I read her blogs, it was clear that she was unable to accept her condition even with the support of her family. On her 31st birthday, she writes that every birthday is a bittersweet reminder of what she does not have. In fact, most of her blog centers on what she does not have or what she is unable to do. In the end, she made the decision to end her life by refusing treatment and food.  I thought about my brother, when I read this, and how his focus centers on the things he has, and the things he CAN do. He is an inspiration and a joy to be around!  Happy birthday, dear brother, you are one of my heroes and I am looking forward to the next 50 years

AffirMINTion:  I appreciate those around me every day!

Good morning, Mintdom!

There are some big changes coming soon to my life as my parents and one of my sisters prepare to move out of the area in the spring. I am so glad that Minty reminded me of the Serenity Prayer. It gives me some direction and some control over how I deal with the change. I thought that I would take this opportunity to ask you how you feel about ‘change’. Do you naturally embrace it or do you fear or dread it? I think I am closer to the fear or dread most of the time, although I would not go that far. I am fortunate to have a strong faith that God will work it all out for my own good; although I have to say, I also fuss with Him before I come around to accepting the change!  LOL Taking an inventory with this little prayer helps me on the road to acceptance. I do not think you have to be a Christian in order to use this prayer as I often said it BEFORE I was one.

Do you have other ways that you deal with change? Even good change can be stressful at times. I would love to hear your thoughts.

AffirMINTion: I ask for wisdom to help me deal with change.

I love this quote from Winston Churchill and have it on my bathroom mirror to remind me to be bold, persistent, and diligent in working towards my goals. It also reminds me that victory does not come easily and/or quickly.  I know that my aim is to lead a healthy lifestyle. This quote reminds me how serious I need to be when it comes to leading a healthy lifestyle, for without it, there is literally no survival. Of course, Minty reminds us to celebrate when we achieve our goals. Sometimes I think that Fun is really her middle name and not Fresh!

What are your aims? Do you take them seriously? Are you celebrating your victories?

Good morning, Mintdom!

I am back to wearing my pedometer every day – Whoohoo!  It really DOES make me more conscious of my movements. There is another person in my office that wears one and we have compared our steps before. Hmmm, I feel my competitive nature bubbling up.

Minty idea – I wonder who might be interested in a little competition to see who walks the most steps in a month. If any of you (Lisa) are interested, let me know.

I love Minty’s quote today. It takes being conscious of your life to really live! I believe that Howard Thurman was referring to people who are living life to the fullest, not just live bodies. If I want to make the world a better place, I need to know what I am passionate about and set my goals accordingly.

Being aware of the things that motivate me is an essential tool in helping me achieve my goals and making the most out of my life. What are some of the tools that you use to achieve your goals?

Good morning, Mintdom!

Do you ever say to yourself things like, “When this happens, I will start” or As soon as I have this (fill in the blank), I will do that”? I had breakfast with my friend and author of  The Path to the Springs (available on Amazon.com), Deb Saunders last week. We had a GREAT discussion on just this question. I know that there are times that I am guilty of this kind of attitude; it does not serve me well. I love Deb’s attitude that we need to start where we are right now. Nike sums it up with its “Just Do It” slogan.

Since that breakfast, I am more aware than ever when I am “putting things off until tomorrow” attitude because tomorrow never comes.

Small Beginnings Again :)

05/23/2011

Good morning Mintdom,

Minty and I had a rough night last night as she was sick and I had hot flashes – what a duo! I did want to get this off to you this morning, as it has been a week since I wrote, and I am trying to be more consistent in my writing.

I did go swimming again yesterday.  It was a week since I swam too.  Rather than beating myself up for not going more often last week, I decided that it was a baby step to getting back to exercise.  I guess some might think that this is a justification and perhaps it is a justification, or rationalization. I can tell you though, I feel like it was an accomplishment, and I am looking forward to doing two days this week rather than feeling bad about myself.

“All great things have small beginnings.” – Peter Senge

My plan for this week is to attend water aerobics on Thursday. What sort of things do you do that help you meet your goals, especially big goals?

Minty Motivation!

Good morning, Mintdom!

Whoo hoo! I have a new pedoMINTer.  My little box is filling up with ex-pedoMINTers – it is difficult to find just the right one because I am fussy.  This one actually speaks to me so I do not have to keep looking; it also reminds me to be conscience of my steps and it keeps me motivated.  Anyway, I am happy to have one again – gotta love counting steps!

Right now, staying motivated is my biggest challenge.  Motivation is like keeping a campfire going; it needs tending to constantly or it goes out.  That is what happened to me – my fire went out and I lost my motivation. Having a pedoMINTer is the spark that ignites my fire; wearing it every day and writing Mintdom stokes my fire. The other thing that helps tend my fire is the support I receive from all of you, either in your notes to me with little nudges, or ones in person!  I SO appreciate each of you!

What are some of the things that keep you motivated?  I would love to hear your ideas!

AffirMINTion: I tend to my motivation.
