Good morning Mintdom!

I spent my first night last night in MINTesota!  It only took me two days to get here by plane because the airlines delayed the first flight for so long that I missed the last Bemidji flight out. I was never so happy to miss a flight in my life as I spent the night with my cousins!  I apologize for the lateness in this Mintdom, but there is a time difference and I thought that if I set my alarm to 6:00 am, that you would get it early, but it is 7:00 am there and not 5:00 am, duh!  I might have to write in the evenings here, although I have less brainpower then.  The nice thing about being on vacation though, is that I can go back to sleep!

I had good step work on Tuesday because I worked most of the day, and flew to Minnesota that It is amazing to me how difficult for me to reach those10,000 steps!  I have either to be, focused on intentional exercise, attend a wedding with dancing, or walk around two airports!  LOL!

My cousin gave me a book while I was there called Pain Free for Women: The revolutionary Program for Ending Chronic Pain by Pete Egoscue with Roger Gittines. Just as I was beginning to think that 10,000 steps was unreasonable, I am at the beginning of the book, but what the authors say is that we have pain because of lack of motion.  Do you think it could be that easy?  Try this little exercise from the book:

Remember when you were eight and took your first solo bike ride?

Do you remember climbing the pine tree behind the house?

Do you remember marathon jump rope contests with your best friend?

Do you remember walking, running, skipping and dancing?

This little exercise helped me remember how much I USED to move! I was always on the move! I need to write these on a 3×5 card (hint, hint) so that I remember how I used to be.  I do not know if you felt this when you did this exercise, but I swear that as I was recalling some of the activities that I did when I was a young girl, I could feel the muscle memory.  I think I just needed to remind my body that it is all still there – I just need to use it more.  From now on, I am going to be extra conscience of moving, moving, and moving!

“Ask yourself: Is what I am about to do taking me closer to or further from my goals.”

– Zig Ziglar

AffirMINTion:  I am moving my body, more and more each day!

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to and welcome to MINTesota.

Taking Charge of The Mint!

Good morning Mintdom!

I thought that I might have a 10,000-step day yesterday because I walked in the morning and I added in steps at out new office and at the grocery store.  I figured I would round it off last night after work, but that did not happen.  It shows me not to depend on getting exercise in after work because there is a chance that it will not happen.  Jeepers – this exercise stuff is difficult!  I wonder if there are people out there that set a big goal, and just sail right through it. This morning, I feel like everyone in the world just sails through his or her lives except for me. Have you ever sailed through to a big goal, and if so, how did you do it?

I am having sort of a down day today and finding it difficult to stay on track with my thoughts.  Honestly, I do not want to be in charge of me today. Oh gosh, now as I look at that sentence on the screen, I remember a time that I was not in charge of me.  For so many years, I allowed others to be in charge of my life.  I allowed others to dictate how I lived, right down to whether I answered the phone or not.  Do you see the beauty of writing down your thoughts?

As I look at that sentence, and remember how my life used to be, I know that, that is not correct for me.  It is my choice to be in charge of me, and I had to fight long and hard to get here!  I am free to choose how my life goes!  We can ALL be free to choose how our life goes.

Just as I was writing this, I received one of my morning texts with a Zig Ziglar quote.  I know that I use his quotes often, but they are so timely for me! This one is perfect.

“If you take the train off the tracks, it’s free, but it can’t go anywhere.”  -Zig Ziglar

I am free to take myself off the tracks or free to stay on the tracks.  I choose to stay on the track.  *I* choose, no one else is choosing for me because I am in charge of me today, and I love it!  I would love to hear your thoughts.  It is easy to post, just click on the reply button at the bottom.  You do not have to be public with your thoughts as I am, but try writing your thoughts for one week – you might be amazed at what you see in writing!

AffirMINTion:  I am free to be me.

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to.

Life is good!

PS  I am going to continue to keep a food journal and posting it until it is a habit, but I am not posting details.

I Love Zig Ziglar & The Mint!

08/27/09 – 3,574

Good morning Mintdom!

Yesterday had a VERY low step count.  No excuses, I did not move much yesterday except in my chair!  OK, I refuse to think badly about myself so, Michelle; you will be happy to know that I took your advice and gave myself a break yesterday!  In our office, we cannot talk badly about ourselves.  Words are powerful; they can do two things – hurt or help, even when talking about ourselves – ESPECIALLY when we talk about ourselves.  If you really pay attention to what you say to yourself, you would be amazed.  Would you say the same things to your friends or family members that you love?  My sister, Nancy started an exercise to help with this a few years ago.  If we hear negative self-talk from one of us in the office, we say, “Boing, boing.”  There used to be a lot of boing, boinging in the beginning, but it has slowed way down as we all became aware of the way we spoke.  The result for me is that my self-esteem has grown rapidly. I KNOW that it has helped my job performance, enabled me to do things that I would never have thought I could do (like joining Toastmasters), and even starting Mintdom!  In fact, I do everything better, since I started that exercise.

“Positive thinking will not work for the individual who is negative about himself.”

-Zig Ziglar.

“Positive thinking will let you do everything better than negative thinking will.”

-Zig Ziglar

Try this exercise in your own home and office for 30 days.  I promise it will help!  Zig Ziglar did not get where he is today by being negative, and if I want the success that Zig Ziglar enjoys, I will do what he does!

Today, I am committing to 6,000 steps.  I KNOW that I can do it.

If you love Zig Ziglar’s style, and are interested in personal development – visit his site at  It is also a GREAT resource for inspiration.

AffirMINTion:  I talk to myself the same way that I talk to my best friend, because I love both of us!

Minty Choices!

7/28/09 – 8,922

Good morning!

I had a good step day yesterday.  I walked in the morning and I walked in the evening too!  I think if I walk a little longer twice a day, I can make the 10,000 steps that ‘they’ recommend.  GyMINTY Crickets – I wish ‘they’ would recommend 5,000 steps a day – then I would be ahead of the game almost every day!  LOL!

6:00 am

It was raining this morning so I went to the gym.  I was there this morning before 6:00 am.   Yikes – what is happening to me?  Am I turning into an exercise Mint?  Whatever is happening to me, I like it.  I am happy with my choice to focus on my health.  I SO appreciate you and all my friends for the support you have given me since I started this last round a couple of months ago.  I believe that I am finally making permanent changes in my life and I can actually live with these changes!

In June, I stopped walking on the treadmill and started walking outside.  As I said, today, I went to the gym to walk on the treadmill, and guess who was there.  No one was there!  I know it was early, but still – no one????  Perhaps they would come later.  I hope so.  I cannot tell you how much this has relieved the stress in my life, and how much better I feel.

Zig Ziglar said, “You are free to choose, but the choices you make today will determine what you will have, be, and do in the tomorrows of your life.”

I know that I tend to look at these quotes a lot of times with my eye on business, but today, I am looking at it with an eye on all areas of my life, and in particular with my health program.  What kind of choices are you making today?  How will those choices determine your tomorrow?  Please feel free to share your thoughts here!

Make it a GREAT day, IF you choose to!
